Child Welfare Institute

On June 6, 2001, Governor Lincoln Almond signed an agreement between the Rhode Island Department of Children, Youth and Families (RIDCYF) and the Rhode Island College School of Social Work (RICSSW), establishing the Rhode Island Child Welfare Institute (CWI). The first stage in creating the Institute was the transfer of DCYF's Staff Development and Training Unit employees to the payroll of Rhode Island College.

A long-range goal is to create additional training and faculty positions for the Institute. The Institute is jointly administered by the Dean of RICSSW, and the Director of DCYF and guided by an Advisory Committee made up of key stake-holders from throughout the State.
