Committee for Faculty Scholarship and Development

Purpose

The goal of the Committee for Faculty Scholarship and Development (CFS&D) is to encourage faculty scholarship (e.g. research, creative activity), professional development, and training. The Committee also seeks to assure transparency in the allocation process for faculty support and to communicate the results of funding with the RIC community and beyond.

There are two distinct awards based on the size of the funding request. Mini Grants are for requests under $1500 and require only a brief application. Major Grants are for requests up to $4,000 that require more explanation in the proposal. Both Mini and Major grants will be awarded each semester.

Starting in 2019, the CFS&D will also administer distribution of faculty reassigned time. The application and instructions are below. The deadline, separate from the grants, is April 30th.

Grant Deadline

The deadlines for applications for CFS&D grants are March 15th and October 31st, with applications requiring review board approval due to the IRB in the month previous (February 1 and September 1). The grants are for activities taking place in the upcoming (March) or current (October) fiscal year. For example, grants due March 15, 2019, are for July 1 2019-June 30, 2020, as are those in October.

Reassigned Time Deadlines

The deadline for requests for reassigned time in 2019 is April 30th.
