2019 Early Spring Courses:

Monday, December 31, 2018 through Friday, January 18, 2019

Featured Course

GEND 350-70: Race, Gender and TV
Credit Hours: 4
Instructor: RIC Staff
Mode: Distance Learning
Dates: January 2 to January 18, 2019

How did classic series like Maude and Julia change what it meant to be an American woman through the power of television? How does programming like I am Cait and Orange is the New Black engage with or avoid intersectional issues of class and race? Students will examine contemporary and classic American television programming to understand how the shows we watch reinforce or subvert notions of race, class, gender, and sexuality. We’ll read the work of a range of theorists and cultural critics who speak to these issues and critique the shows through those theoretical lenses.
