Rhode Island College is pleased to be partnering with campus programs and with public, private, and nonprofit sector offices to offer professional development courses at RIC.

All members of the workforce are invited to participate in our Professional Development Programs, and RIC's Outside Link Outreach Programs and Office of Professional Studies and Continuing Education can arrange to offer courses on-site tailored to your workforce needs. Professional Studies and Continuing Education to Offer Microsoft Office 2016 Classes at the Westerly Education Center

Rhode Island College is partnering with the Westerly Education Center (WEC) to offer workforce training courses in Westerly.  RIC’s first offering is scheduled to start on May 31, 2017.

The Microsoft Office 2016 courses are designed to provide workplace computer skills and proficiencies to enable participants to analyze, design, and develop solutions for office business processes and problems using Microsoft Office 2016.  Introductory courses include Word 2016, Excel 2016, and PowerPoint 2016.

Qualified state employees may be eligible for state Incentive Credit through the RI Office of Training and Development.

Each course includes 24 training hours and the fee is $350 per course.  Joyce Perry, owner of Tailor-Made Training and an adjunct instructor at RIC, will be the instructor.  A second cycle of Microsoft Office 2016 courses will be offered in fall 2017.  Additional workforce and professional training courses will be developed and offered in Westerly based on community and industry needs.

Introduction to Microsoft Word 2016
Dates/Times: Wednesdays; 1:00-4:00 PM, May 31, June 7, 14, 21 and 28 and July 12, 19 and 26
Continuing Education Units: 2.4 CEU (24 contact hours)
State employees may be eligible for Incentive Credit.
Fee: $350

Course Description
This is an introductory hands-on course on the basics of Microsoft Word.  Students will learn the basics of the ribbon including creating and formatting of documents, tabs, tables, proper set up of business letters and memos, and mail merge.  This course is intended to provide an introductory experience in the use of word processing in an office/management setting.

Introduction to Microsoft Excel 2016
Dates/Times: Wednesdays; 5:00-8:00 PM, May 31, June 7, 14, 21 and 28 and July 12, 19 and 26
Continuing Education Units: 2.4 CEU (24 contact hours)
State employees may be eligible for Incentive Credit.
Fee: $350

Course Description
This is an introductory hands-on course on the basics of Microsoft Excel.  Students will learn the basics of the ribbon including creating and formatting of spreadsheets, creating formulas and functions and calculations, as well as producing professional charts from spreadsheets created by the student.

Introduction to Microsoft PowerPoint 2016 and Professional Presentations
Dates/Times: Thursdays; 5:00-8:00 PM, June 1, 8, 15, 22, 29 and July 13, 20 and 27
Continuing Education Units: 2.4 CEU (24 contact hours)
State employees may be eligible for Incentive Credit.
Fee: $350

Course Description
Participants will learn how to create a Microsoft PowerPoint presentation and also learn elements and techniques for making effective public presentations.  Functions covered include use of design layout, slide transitions, custom animation, grouping text, inserting pictures from files and clip art, inserting YouTube videos, adding and deleting slides, formatting slides, adding page numbers and headers and footers.  Presentation training includes ‘Presenting the Presentation’: scripting an introduction and conclusion and managing the elements of body language, eye contact, voice, articulation and tone.
