Is there a requirement to live on campus?
To live on campus you must be enrolled as a full-time matriculated student at Rhode Island College.
How many students live on campus?
Rhode Island College houses up to 1,198 students.
Is there designated first year housing?
First year students can be assigned to Browne Hall (All Female), Sweet Hall, Thorp Hall, & Willard Hall. Sweet and Thorp Hall are all first year buildings, while half of Browne and Willard are reserved for upperclassmen.
How are room assignments made?
For first year students, rooms are assigned based on the criteria received through the survey students fill out over the summer prior to their first semester on-campus. First year students are able to fill out their survey from June until Mid-July.
Upper-class students who are returning to on-campus living must pay a room deposit. Room deposits can be made from late February until the Friday before spring break in March by clicking here. Students who pay a deposit will receive a selection time in early April which will allow them to choose a room once the selection process has started, traditionally this occurs in the last week of April.
When will first year students receive room assignments?
First year students will receive their room assignment in mid-July.
When can I move in?
Incoming first year students can move onto campus on Saturday, August 31, 2013.
Incoming first year students move-in based on their LAST Name
M-Z: 9am to 12pm
A-L: 1pm to 5pm
Returning and upper-class student move-in is on Sunday, September 1, 2013.

Are phones supplied?
Each Residence Hall suite except Sweet Hall is equipped with a phone that can make local calls.
Can I have my car on campus?
All students who live on campus are allowed to bring vehicles. Students are asked to register their vehicles at Campus Police located in Browne Hall.
Can I have guests in my room?
Students may have overnight guests in their room. Guests must be signed in at the front desk by 7pm of every evening. Guests must also be escorted at all times by their resident host. For more information on our guest policy please click here.
What happens if I get locked out of my room or lose my key?
In the event that a resident becomes locked out of their room, they can go contact one of the designated services below to be issued a key to access their room. In the event a student loses their keys they will be responsible for the appropriate charges. Weekdays: 8:30 A.M. to 7:00 P.M.: Go to the Office of Residential Life & Housing in The New Hall. 7:00 P.M. to 7:00 A.M.: Contact the RA on Duty in your building. In the late evening/early morning the Campus Police will also assist with lock outs. 7:00 A.M. to 8:30 A.M.: Contact the Campus Police Office. Weekends: 7:00 P.M. to 10:00 A.M.: Contact the RA on Duty in your building. Can I have my own personal refrigerator?
Students can have personal refrigerators but they cannot exceed 4.6 cubic feet.
Where are the laundry facilities and how much does it cost?
Each building is equipped with a laundry facility. The cost to wash and dry is approximately $1.25 each. Below is a list of laundry facility locations per building.
Browne: 1st Floor next to the lower lounge
New Hall: Ground Floor
Sweet Hall: The end cap of every floor
Thorp Hall: First Floor, next to the main lounge
Weber Hall: Ground floor
Willard Hall: Attached to the Recreation Room
How much does on campus housing cost?
The cost of on campus housing is as follows:
Browne Hall singles, Thorp Hall singles, Weber Hall singles, and Willard Doubles: $5424 per year
Willard Hall Single: $5576 per year
Willard Hall SUPER Single: $5776 per year
Sweet Hall (All Rooms): $5698 per year
New Hall Suite Style Double: $5778 per year
New Hall Suite Style Single: $5966 per year
