The Works of Rob Boyd, Alumni Artist

<about the artist>
A Student's Impression of Boyd's exhibit by Dillon Medina:
The first thing I noticed about Robert Boyd's exhibit at the James P. Adams Library was his Rustic Rivet Necklace. Made from brass and steel, the clunky rivets seemed to take on a liquid life of their own, flowing around the neck of the little bust the necklace was displayed on. It reminded me of some steam-punk gadget, or the innards of an absurdly graceful zeppelin. This juxtaposition between hard and soft, form and flow is exactly what Boyd was aiming for with his "Rustic Rivet Series," and he's hit the mark beautifully. <more>
The 20th Anniversary of the Fall of the Berlin Wall
The Berlin Wall was constructed by the East German government in August 1961 to halt the vast numbers of East Berliners defecting to the West. For 28 years, those attempting to cross the wall to defect to the west risked their lives, many being killed in the attempt. On November 9, 1989, travel restrictions were abruptly ended, and citizens on both sides of the wall began to celebrate and tear the wall down. This week the world celebrated the 20th anniversary of that event. An exhibit commemorating these events will be on display in Adams Library through November 30th. For more information on this topic, see the LibGuide at http://ric.libguides.com/Berlin_Wall.

Around and About Rhode Island
From the shoreline of Newport to the skyline of Providence, Rhode Island has a lot to see. Authors, artists, and architects have all been inspired by the smallest state, and many works of art are uniquely Rhode Island. An exhibit of the many people and places of Rhode Island is currently on display outside Special Collections on the fourth floor of Adams Library.
