Article Requests (or Document Delivery)Document Delivery (DD) refers to articles or other kinds of documents which are acquired through the services of a fee-based, article delivery company. Upon request, a DD vendor will usually fax articles to individuals or libraries, within 72 hours. DD services are available through databases such as CARL Uncover, and ArticleFirst from OCLC, which are accessible in the HELIN system and can be utilized directly by the end-user. Document Delivery services are usually much quicker than the library's ILL service, but there is a fee for the service which the patron must pay with the use of a credit card. The average charge for an article requested via DD is between $18.00 and $30.00. If speed of delivery is more important than the cost, then commercial document delivery should be considered. Consult a Reference Librarian for information and assistance. PLEASE NOTE: If an article you are in need of is from a journal which the James P. Adams Library cancelled in the years 1990-1994, it may fall into the realm of subsidized Document Delivery and may be provided at no cost to you. See a reference librarian for more information about subsidized Document Delivery. |
