Document Delivery (ILL) Policies
-
Only current Rhode Island College
students, faculty, emeriti faculty and staff with a validated borrowers
card, have Interlibrary Loan privileges. Alumni and special borrowers
can utilize local public libraries for ILL. Patrons of other HELIN
member libraries must request ILL service at their primary HELIN Library.
-
The Library reserves the right
to limit the number of ILL requests submitted for any one individual
at any time in order that all requests receive equitable attention,
especially during periods of peak usage. Please submit no more than
5 ILL requests at any one time.
-
Costs for ILL borrowing are
the responsibility of the individual requesting the material. There
is generally no cost for ILL transactions due to the cooperative networks
in which the library participates, however, many libraries do charge.
Fees range between $5.00 and $20.00. Always indicate on the ILL forms,
the amount you are willing to pay for an ILL (e.g. $0.00, up to $10,
$10-$20).
-
Interlibrary Loan requests
may be submitted via the HELIN electronic ILL forms or on paper forms
which are available from, and must be submitted to, a librarian at
the Reference desk. If no Reference librarian is available, please
leave the forms in the Document Delivery Office accross from the elevator
on the 3rd floor of the library (main floor).
-
Copyright. Current copyright
law and guidelines place restrictions on both personal as well as
institutional photocopying of materials protected by copyright. You
may be required to sign (on a print article form) a copyright statement
regarding the use of the copied material.
-
Submit one ILL form, paper or
electronic, for each item you are requesting. All ILL request forms
are reviewed by a reference librarian to verify citation information
and availability before being referred to the ILL Office. Incomplete
forms will cause delays in processing. Please see a Reference librarian
for assistance with filling out the ILL forms.
-
Books or Monographs borrowed
via ILL may not be used for course reserves.
