Referrals
The HELIN online catalog includes the collections of eight of the nine HELIN member libraries:
- Bryant College
- Community College of Rhode Island
- Johnson & Wales University
- Providence College
- Rhode Island College
- Roger Williams University
- University of Rhode Island
- Salve Regina University
All Rhode Island College students, faculty, and staff with a valid RIC ID and registered library user may use the facilities and borrow materials from any other HELIN library.
The library catalogs of other Rhode Island libraries and library networks are available through the HELIN on-line system. The Ocean State Libraries catalog includes the Providence Public Library and other Rhode Island public libraries. Brown University, the Naval War College, and the Rhode Island School of Design catalogs are also available (see Other Libraries for links to these catalogs). Materials from these libraries are available through Interlibrary Loan.
The Providence Public Library, at 225 Washington Street, is open to all Rhode Island residents and every resident is entitled to a borrowers card. Out-of-state college students may present their valid college identification card to get an Ocean State Libraries borrowers card. The Providence Public Library has an excellent collection of materials on Rhode Island and Rhode Island history, including an index of the Providence Journal.
Brown University does not have a reciprocal borrowing arrangement with Rhode Island College except through HELIN Loan. Rhode Island College students are allowed access to materials on site at Brown if the items are not owned by any other Rhode Island library. Entrance to the Brown libraries requires a referral letter from this library. See a Reference Librarian about obtaining a referral letter.
