Weeding Project

The library staff has embarked on a long-term weeding project whereby every book in the collection will be examined for suitability for the collection and for its physical condition. Items determined to be candidates for withdrawal will be placed on the Weeding Review (located in Course Reserves on the 3rd floor) shelves where faculty are invited to look them over and make comments on slips provided as to whether the item should indeed be discarded or returned to the general shelves. The Library Liaison to each academic department will notify their departments when there are a significant number of items ready for faculty review. Items on the Weeding Review shelves will stay there for 30 days, then be withdrawn from the collection unless faculty comments indicate a reason to keep them in the collection. Shelving space regained with the removal of these items is much needed for newer items coming into the collection.

This is occuring throughout the year (Fall and Spring) so it is recommended that you regularly review the shelves. All items placed on the shelves for review wll be made available some time during the Fall or Spring semester. Library liaisons will be contacting individual departments to notify when books in their discipline have been placed on the shelf.
