JournalsThe library currently subscribes to around 1,500 periodicals which have been selected to support the curriculum. These include general interest journals, scholarly journals in many subject areas, publications of professional and learned associations, and some newspapers. Periodicals are listed in the HELIN catalog. In addition, the library subscribes to various electronic databases which contain selected articles from over 10,000 periodicals which may be access by title of the periodical in the Periodicals List. See our instructions about Finding Articles for more information about locating articles and periodicals. Most of the journals are shelved on the yellow shelves and in the Microforms and Photocopy Room on Level 3. Physical sciences journals are shelved on Level 2. All periodicals are shelved according to journal call number. Bound volumes of earlier issues are shelved together with the paper issues. The earlier issues of about half of the library's journals are kept on microfiche or microfilm, located in cabinets in or near the Microforms and Photocopy Room, also arranged by journal call number. Digital reader printers for both microfiche and microfilm are available. Journals cannot be checked out. RIC identification cards can be activated for photocopy service at the Campus Card office across from the Bookstore in the Student Union. For the one coin-operated photocopier in the photocopy room on the third floor, change is available at the Circulation Desk. There are photocopiers available on the first, third, and fourth floors of the library. Library users may purchase a copy card from the dispenser near Circulation on Level 3. |
