Borrowing PrivilegesAll students, faculty, and staff of Rhode Island College may borrow materials from the James P. Adams Library. A valid college identification card must be presented at the library's Circulation Desk to establish borrowing privileges. The library also extends borrowing privileges to holders of valid ID cards from the HELIN Institutions: Association of Rhode Island Health Sciences Libraries (ARIHSL - available through HELIN loan only), Brown University (through InRhode only), Community College of Rhode Island, Johnson & Wales University, Providence College, Roger Williams University, Salve Regina University, the University of Rhode Island, and Wheaton College. Limited borrowing privileges are granted to Rhode Island College alumni and holders of valid CRIARL (Consortium of Rhode Island Academic and Research Libraries) cards. Special borrower cards may be issued to Rhode Island residents 18 years of age and older, with proof of residency, and to researchers and professional people who are not associated with Rhode Island College. Special borrowers do not have HELIN borrowing privileges or interlibrary loan privileges. The library reserves the right to deny borrowing privileges, if warranted. For more information, contact the Access Services Department at (401) 456-8126. The circulation desk is located on the 3rd floor. Responsibilities of BorrowersBorrowers are responsible for all books charged out on their cards, for keeping track of the due dates for all items (which can be done online), and for notifying the library of any changes in mailing and e-mail addresses. Loan PoliciesStudents may borrow books for 4 weeks. Faculty and staff may borrow books for 4 months, subject to recall by other borrowers after 4 weeks. There is no limit on the number of books borrowed. Books may be renewed as many times as necessary, as long as there are no "holds" placed against them. Renewals can be made in person or over the telephone (456-9617). In order to renew books, borrowers must have their identification cards and the books in hand. There is a 14-day grace period for returning books without penalty. Beginning on the 15th day, fines for overdue books are assessed at the rate of 10 cents a day per book. The minimum fine is $1.50 per book; the maximum fine is $10.00 per book. Books must be returned either to the Circulation Desk on the third floor or to the outdoor book-return bins. Borrowers will be charged replacement fees for damaged or lost books. For more information, call the Access Services Dept. (456-8126). Laptop LoansStudents, staff and faculty of Rhode Island College can borrow laptops for use in the library. Laptops can be checked out through the reserves desk. Be sure to check the laptop loan policy to be aware of all your responsibilities when borrowing. |
