Borrowing Items from other HELIN Institutions
Students, faculty, and staff with valid IDs and registered with the
James P. Adams Library can use any of the libraries belonging to HELIN.
Members include:
- RIC
- ARIHSL (Association
of Rhode Island Health Sciences Libraries)
students cannot visit most of the ARIHSL libraries but borrowing
privileges are allowed through HELIN Loan and Document
Delivery
- Brown University
Students cannot visit to Brown University's main library without
a referral. Students can
also request items from Brown using InRhode.
- Bryant College
- CCRI
- Johnson & Wales University
- Providence College
- Roger Williams University
- Salve Regina University
- URI.
To borrow a book from any of the institutions except Brown University,
you have 2 choices you can go directly to that institution's library
(such as Providence College) and check the book out from their library
or you can request the item to be sent to RIC via the HELIN Loan System.
To request a book be sent, follow these steps:
- Find the item in the HELIN Catalog.
Any book or non-serial item that shows "AVAILABLE" in
the "STATUS" display of the catalog record may be requested
via HELIN Loan.
- Point and click on this button that state HELIN Request
- Follow the prompts to add your name and Library Barcode number.
(Your student identification card, which should be validated to be
used as your borrower's card, has your Library Barcode number.)
- Items will arrive at the circulation desk in 3-5 business days.
If the item is not in the HELIN Catalog:
- Access InRhode
directly (a link is also available on the other
libraries page) or when you are looking at a catalog record in
the HELIN catalog click on the Search InRhode button
at the top of the web page.
- You will notice at the center of the record it will state 1
InRhode libray has this item or 2 InRhode libraries
have this item. If you click the link it will show you
which libraries hold the item. Any book or non-serial item
that shows "AVAILABLE" in the "STATUS" display
of the catalog record may be requested via InRhode Loan system.
- Click on the link that states Request this Item and
select HELIN Library Catalog (if you are RIC student, faculty or staff).
- Follow the prompts to add your name and Library Barcode number.
(Your student identification card, which should be validated to be
used as your borrower's card, has your Library Barcode number.)
- Items will arrive at the Circulation Desk in 3-5 business days.
Please note: HELIN libraries will not lend books from their reference
collections or their special/rare books collections nor will they lend
complete issues or volumes of periodicals. HELIN libraries will not
lend videos and films, CD's, sound recordings, computer files, and other
non-standard formats of materials.
