Borrower's Requirements
To borrow a laptop, you must be currently enrolled or employed at Rhode Island College (student, faculty, or staff) with a VALID RIC ID card. Your status must be current in the James P. Adams Library circulation system.
Loan Periods and Hours of the Program
- Laptops will be made available from the Reserve Desk during normal Library hours
- Laptops may not be reserved
- Laptops may be borrowed for use for a loan of three hours. They may be renewed as long as no one is waiting for a laptop.
- Laptops must be returned to the Reserve Desk ONE HOUR BEFORE CLOSING.
Restrictions on Use
Users will be told upon checkout to examine the laptops and be provided with a checklist to be certain that all parts are operational.
- Users will agree in writing to replacement costs outlined and to the following restriction.
- Laptops are not to leave the library building.
- Users are not to duplicate any software from the laptop.
- Users will save everything on floppy disk or CD-RW disk, not the hard drive. All non-standard program files will be removed upon check-in.
- Users must notify the Reserve Desk Staff if the laptop and related equipment are damaged before using these borrowed items or as soon as damage is found found.
- Users must return the computer and related equipment to the Reserve Desk before the 3-hour loan period ends or before 1-hour until closing, whichever comes first. Overdue fines are $10.00/hour. (This fine will only be assessed if the laptop is a full hour late.)
Replacement/Damages Charges
Users are responsible for loss, damage, or theft of a laptop while in their possession. Users should verify the condition of the laptop at the time of check out.

- PCMCIA Wireless Network Card - $100
- Floppy disk drive - $200
- CD-RW/DVD drive - $200
- Battery - $75
Printing
Printing will be available for $0.10/page from the print station in the Microforms Room on the 3rd floor of the library.
