Submitting Theses/Final Projects to the LibraryPlease note: each copy of a thesis or project should include a title page and a completed signature or approval page. Library CopiesStudents are asked to deliver at least two paper copies (the original and one other) of their honors projects, master's theses, doctoral dissertations, or CAGS field projects for addition to the Library's collections to appropriate personnel at the Library (see below). Both of these copies will be sent to a commercial bindery and made into hardbound books. The original will be placed in Special Collections, and the other copy will be placed in the Library's circulating collection. The Library pays for the binding of these two documents. Department CopiesStudents should also bring an additional paper copy of their thesis or project, if the sponsoring academic department or program wishes to have its own bound copy. This copy will be sent to the bindery along with those slated for the Library's collections. The academic department or program pays for having this additional copy bound. Personal CopiesStudents may submit additional paper copies (limit is five), if they wish to have copies bound for their own use. Students are responsible for paying the binding costs of these personal copies, unless sponsoring academic departments or programs have made other arrangements for handling the cost. Payment for binding is required at the time of submission of copies to the Library. The preferred method of payment is by check, made out to Rhode Island College. Digital CopiesAdditionally, to allow future access to their works via the Web, students are encouraged to submit a digital version of their thesis or final project for inclusion in CREATED@RIC, the Institutional Repository of Rhode Island College, along with their paper copies. The preferred format is Microsoft Word - other standard file types are accepted - submitted on a floppy disk or a compact disc or as an email attachment, sent to the cataloging Department's primary contact for thesis binding, Kresten Jespersen, jjespersen@ric.edu. Students must also print out and complete a copy of the CREATED @ RIC Deposit and Access Agreement Form [download form] and submit the completed form when delivering the paper and electronic copies of their theses or projects. ContactFrom January to June 2008 students should call Professor J. Kresten Jespersen at the Library (401-456-2820) to make an appointment for delivering thesis/project copies, the completed Deposit and Access Agreement Form for electronic versions submitted, and payment for binding of personal copies. After June 2008, Professor Carol Hryciw-Wing (401-456-9615) should be contacted for an appointment. |
