Minors are available in many of the above disciplines, as well as in gerontology, jazz studies, Portuguese, and writing. An endorse-ment program in bilingual-bicultural education is also available.
The educational foundation for all Rhode Island College students is General Education. Beginning with a study of both Western and non-Western civilization and literature, it provides students with an understanding of the cultural and historical traditions that have shaped the world in which we live. It also develops a critical appreciation of the values, ideas, and practices that have emerged from these traditions.
The College Honors Program provides exceptional educational opportunities for academically superior students. Accelerated or intensive course work in very small classes permits greater stu-dent-teacher interaction and emphasizes individual research and creativity. A number of merit-based scholarships are awarded each year to selected honors students.

As you progress through your studies, you will most likely be focusing in on your career goals as well. To assist you in this regard, the Career Development Center brings prospective employers to campus and conducts workshops on job hunting, résumé writing, interviewing, and career/life planning.
