Standards Roll-out, phase II - Read with Understanding This reading workshop series will explore how the “Read With Understanding” Standard and Benchmarks can guide the teaching and learning of adult learners. The workshop will emphasize reading as a process which requires the flexible use of alphabetics, fluency, vocabulary, and strategy knowledge. In each session, participants will experience how research-based instructional practices for teaching reading can be incorporated into a student-centered and contextualized approach to adult teaching and learning. |

Standards Roll-out, phase II - Using Math session – This numeracy training will use the RI “Using Math” Standard and Benchmarks to explore a new way to teach and learn math. The focus will be on developing strong number sense, and then connecting number sense to geometry (and a bit of algebra and data). In each session, participants will have opportunities to expand their own content knowledge as well as learn techniques for teaching with the RI Math Standard. Participants will have opportunities to try out hands-on activities and will develop their own activities using authentic materials. |

Standards Roll-out, phase II - Listening/Speaking session – This ESL workshop series will use the RI “Speak So Others Can Understand” and “Listen Actively” Standards and Benchmarks to explore ways to enhance the teaching of ESL. Our focus will be on learning about the Standards, which reflect a purposeful, student-centered, and contextual approach to teaching and learning, and 2) evaluating how our current teaching practices can be enriched by using the Standards and Benchmarks to guide instruction. Participants will learn techniques and try out hands-on activities for addressing Benchmarks that may be less familiar to them. They will work with sample lessons and develop activities for testing the Standards in their own classrooms. |

Standards Roll-out, phase II- Culminating session All practitioners and their directors, who have participated in the three Standards roll-out series, will reconvene for a final consideration of their work with Standards, and contemplation of next steps. |
