Workforce Development

Goals

The goals of WFD efforts by the PD Center have a dual focus: first to support practitioners with integration of elements of WFD into ABE, ASE, and ESOL classrooms and curricula, and second, to help facilitate an increase in the number of adult learners who find jobs, retain employment, and advance toward long term career goals as they participate in Rhode Island's adult education system.

Activities

The following priority activities have been identified in order to carry out these goals.

  • The PDC will provide support, training, and/or technical assistance to the field that will help to strengthen and enhance teaching strategies in the area of workforce development/ workforce readiness so that learners are better prepared for today's fast-paced, innovative workforce.
  • The PDC will work to expand providers' capacity to engage in effective business and industry partnerships throughout the state in order to foster greater collaboration and long-term partnering toward achieving mutual employment goals.
  • The PDC will participate with the Department of Labor and Training in identifying strategies toward connecting learners to the one-stop centers for access to job opportunities and other services throughout RI.
  • The PDC will promote and support local efforts toward re-credentialing for immigrant professionals so they may engage in our state's employment development system.
