Board of Directors
Overview: The Alumni Association Board of Directors consists of a president, vice president, treasurer, secretary, the immediate past president, and 12 directors, including a maximum of two-at large directors and the executive director of alumni and college relations. The duties of the board are to periodically review the association’s mission and purpose, ensure effective organizational planning, ensure adequate resources, determine and monitor the association’s programs and services, support alumni programs and evaluate the board's performance.
Meetings: The board meets a minimum of six times/year. Board members are strongly encouraged to attend all meetings.
Alumni Awards/Honor Roll Committee
Overview: The Awards Committee nominates candidates for the Association's annual awards and honor roll to the Board for approval. In addition, this committee shall be responsible for recommending alumni awards and honor roll procedures to the Board. The committee reviews the nominees for six alumni award categories and selects the recipients. The committee also forwards the slate of Honor Roll nominations submitted by the various academic departments. Committee members or chairs also MC the evening and announce recipients. Other committee members also help during the evening event by pouring wine or greeting guests at check-in.
Alumni Engagement and Outreach Committee
Overview: The Alumni Engagement and Outreach Committee ensures that varied and effective programs, activities, and events are developed and implemented to strengthen the Rhode Island College alumni affiliation, and to meet the needs of Rhode Island College. The committee may also from time to time assist with direct and indirect fundraising for the Alumni Association Annual Fund.
Overview: The Communications Committee works to ensure that all Rhode Island College graduates receive consistent and effective communications. Committee duties include assisting with the creation and content for the alumni magazine and assisting with the Alumni Association social media and overall communication strategy.
Overview: The Executive Committee shall consist of the Officers, the immediate Past-President and the Director, Alumni Affairs and College Relations, [non-voting]. When the Board of Directors is not in session, the Executive Committee shall have and may exercise the authority to act on behalf of the Board of Directors, as provided under the Rhode Island Non-Profit Corporation Act. The Executive Committee shall report any action taken by it to the Board of Directors at its next meeting.
Overview: The Finance Committee shall consist of the Treasurer as Chair and a minimum of three (3) Directors. The Committee will prepare an annual budget for Board approval. The committee shall also review and act upon recommendations of the professional staff of the College and of any outside investment advisors employed by the Corporation in reference to the investment of Corporation funds. The Chair or a designated committee member shall report to the next succeeding meeting of the Board of Directors on any and all actions taken.
Fundraising and RICochet Fund Committee
Overview: The Fundraising and RICochet Fund Committee assists in the planning and implementing of fundraising activities and events such as the annual Liberty Mutual Cup Alumni Golf Tournament in honor of Helen Lombardi ’40. The committee also reviews and acts upon requests from RIC students for emergency financial assistance. This RICochet emergency fund provides grants to cover such emergencies as educational expenses, health, housing or childcare (maximum of $1,000 for any grant.)
Overview: Homecoming is a week-end long annual event held in October that provides an excellent opportunity to connect alumni to students and to each other. Members of this committee work alongside students, faculty and staff in many aspects of the planning and implementation to ensure that all events are well attended.
Overview: The scholarship committee works to ensure that approximately $100,000 in scholarship monies are awarded each year. Working closely with Alumni Association staff, members of this committee assist with program development and the selection of student recipients.
Young Alumni and Student Engagement Committee
Overview: The Rhode Island College Alumni Association feels that it is important to keep the bond between the College and our graduates of the last decade strong and mutually rewarding. Members of this committee assist with young alumni programming and event implementation as well as work closely with Student Alumni Association (SAA) members to ensure that they’re being connected with RIC alumni through mentoring, leadership, social, and networking events and activities.
