In the fall 2007 semester, Rhode Island College began participation in the cross sectional approach to the Collegiate Learning Assessment (CLA) assessing the institution's contribution to student learning. One hundred students from the entering freshman class took the online test. This semester, we are testing 100 exiting seniors.Campuses receive two reports: an interim report in mid-winter after testing of freshmen that is descriptive of our incoming students and the final value-added report during the summer after testing of seniors.
We have received the results of the fall testing, comparing our students to other CLA participants, adjusting for SAT or ACT scores and are making them available. It is important to remember that these results are descriptive of incoming first semester, first year students. The results that we receive in the late summer will reflect value added by our institutional contribution to student learning. The entering freshman students have been notified that they can access their individual reports online. A summary of the results is available here, along with the sample student score report the individual students receive.
