- About A.S.T.A.L. -

A.S.T.A.L., the Alliance for the Study and Teaching of Adolescent Literature at Rhode Island College, is dedicated to improving adolescent literacy. We are teachers, librarians, and college students who are interested in quality literature and the impact it can have on young people. A.S.T.A.L.’s goals are as follows:

to promote literacy for young people of Rhode Island and Southern New England;

to provide support and opportunities for area educators to increase their knowledge of literature for young people;

to develop effective ways to integrate adolescent literature in a standards-based curriculum;

to establish programs and activities for educators and students that will help them use current, quality books;

to create various opportunities for critical discussion of books and their authors.
