Rhode Island College Softball Update #3

(11-8 Overall; 1-1 in the Little East Conference)

Providence, RI--Head Coach Maria Morin’s Anchorwomen are 11-8 overall and 1-1 in the Little East Conference. The Anchorwomen fell to Babson, 4-1, on Apr. 1 before sweeping a doubleheader vs. Worcester State, 14-2, and 11-0 on Apr. 2.

Senior first baseman Michele Fanelli (Pembroke Pines, FL) has played in 18 games, starting all of them. She is batting .400 with nine runs, 20 hits, six doubles and 12 RBI. Fanelli went 4-4 with two doubles and an RBI in the 4-1 loss to Babson.

Junior pitcher/designated player Kim Warrington (North Kingstown, RI) has appeared in 16 games, starting 14 of them. She is 8-5 with a 1.97 ERA, 11 complete games, one shutout and 103 strikeouts in 99.1 innings. As a hitter, she has played in 18 games, starting all of them. She is batting .264 with eight runs, 14 hits, three doubles, two triples and nine RBI.  Warrington had a bases clearing triple and picked up her eighth victory of the season in the 14-2 victory over Worcester State

Sophomore pitcher/left fielder Casey Soares (Swansea, MA) has appeared in six games, starting four of them. She is 3-2 with a 0.32 ERA and 26 strikeouts in 21.2 innings pitched. As a hitter, she has played in 16 games, starting all of them. She is batting .357 with nine runs, 15 hits, two doubles, four triples, five RBI and one stolen base. Soares went 6-7 with two triples, two doubles and pitched a complete game shutout in the doubleheader sweep of Worcester State.

Senior second basemen Caitlin Schimmel (Cumberland, RI) has played in 19 games, starting all of them. She is batting .235 with eight runs, eight hits, six RBI and one stolen base.

Sophomore infielder Amy Machado (Newport, RI) has played in 15 games, starting 14 of them. She is batting .349 with seven runs, 15 hits, five RBI and one stolen base. Machado went 5-8 in the doubleheader sweep of Worcester State.

Junior center fielder Sue Gaber (Colchester, CT) has played in 19 games, starting all of them. She is batting .278 with six runs, ten hits and four RBI.

Sophomore catcher Rachael Caldwell (Richmond, RI) has played in 17 games, starting all of them. She is batting .265 with 10 runs, 13 hits, one double and two RBI.

Senior shortstop Melanie Miller (Warwick, RI) has played in 19 games, starting all of them. She is batting .232 with ten runs, 13 hits, four RBI and one stolen base.

Junior outfielder Hollie Benevides (North Dighton, MA) has played in 11 games, starting six of them. She is batting .400 with five runs, six hits, four RBI and one stolen base.

Sophomore infielder Aimee Reed (Pawcatuck, CT) has played in eight games, starting three of them. She is batting .182 with one run, three hits and one RBI.

Freshman outfielder Katie Benevides (North Dighton, MA) has played in 11 games, starting nine of them. She is batting .217 with three runs, five hits and one RBI.

Freshman infielder Ashley Brooks (Hamden, CT) has played in 15 games, starting ten of them. She is batting .250 with six runs, seven hits and three RBI.

Freshman outfielder Andree Sitnik (Lincoln, RI) has played in 11 games, starting one of them. She is batting .083 with one hit, one run and one stolen base on the season.

Freshman outfielder Megan Ponte (South Kingstown, RI) has played in 13 games, starting nine of them. She is batting .192 with three runs, five hits, five RBI and three stolen bases.

Freshman outfielder Casie Lyons (Hudson, MA) has played five games, starting three of them. She has scored one run on the season.

Freshman pitcher Laura Papa (Coventry, RI) has appeared in three games, starting one of them. She is 0-1 with a 21.00 ERA and two strikeouts in 1.1 innings pitches.

In upcoming action, RIC will play at Gordon on Friday, Apr. 11 and at UMass-Boston on Saturday, Apr. 12. RIC is slated to play at Keene State on Sunday, Apr. 13.
