SENIOR TRIO LEADS RIC TO SWEEP OF WARRIORS
Providence, RI—Seniors Michele Fanelli, Melanie Miller and Caitlin Schimmel all had key RBI in the sixth inning to lead RIC past Eastern Connecticut in the opening game of a Little East Conference doubleheader on senior day, 10-2. The Anchorwomen scored six runs in the sixth inning to put the game away.
Sophomore third baseman Amy Machado went 2-3 with three RBI to help RIC take the opener. Sophomore Kim Warrington went the distance, picking up her 13th win of the season.
In the nightcap, sophomore Rachael Caldwell had an RBI double as the Anchorwomen took the second game, 2-1. Casey Soares gave up just one unearned run and struck out seven to help RIC improve to 19-11-1 and 9-4-1 in the Little East.
Warrior junior Shari D’Amico took the tough-luck loss as Eastern Connecticut fell to 17-16 and 8-6 in conference play.
In upcoming action, the Anchorwomen will host a first round LEC tournament game on Tuesday Mar. 29.
