Rhode Island College Baseball Update #6 |

(20-17-1 Overall; 5-9 in the Little East
Conference) |

Providence, RI-- Head
Coach Jay Grenier’s team is currently 20-17-1 overall and
5-9 in the Little East Conference. The Anchormen had a busy week,
playing seven in six days. RIC is the sixth seed in the Little East
Conference Tournament and will face top-seeded Eastern Connecticut
in Willimantic on Wednesday, May 7. |

The Anchormen took a pair
of non-conference games, downing Becker, 18-16, on Apr. 29 and
Johnson & Wales, 10-9, on May 1, before going 3-2 in Little East
action to clinch a sixth-seed in the upcoming tournament. RIC
defeated Plymouth State, 13-0 on May 2, split a doubleheader with
UMass-Boston, falling, 6-3, and winning, 10-7, on May 3, and broke
even at Western Connecticut, losing, 7-6, and winning, 3-2, on May
4. |

Junior first baseman Eric
Gibree (Bristol, RI) set new RIC records for a single season
with 57 hits and 51 RBI in the doubleheader vs. Western Connecticut.
Gibree has played in 38 games, starting all of them. He is batting
.370 with 43 runs, 57 hits, ten doubles, three triples, ten home
runs, 51 RBI, and one stolen base. |

Sophomore pitcher/first
baseman Matt Brannon (Cranston, RI) has played in 38 games,
starting all of them. He is batting .359 with 25 runs, 52 hits,
seven doubles, two triples, two home runs, 41 RBI and one stolen
base. As a pitcher, he has appeared in nine games, starting six of
them. He is 5-2 with a 2.50 ERA, three complete games and 36
strikeouts in 54.0 innings. Brannon hurled a complete game,
nine-strikeout, shutout performance in the win over Plymouth State. |

Sophomore
pitcher/outfielder Glenn Dusablon (North Smithfield, RI) has
played in 36 games, starting all of them. He is batting .359 with 54
runs, 55 hits, three double, three triples, five home runs, 30 RBI
and 14 stolen bases. As a pitcher, he has appeared in seven games,
starting six of them. He is 2-2 with a 6.81 ERA, two complete games
and 26 strikeouts in 39.2 innings. |

Freshman outfielder Mike
Naylor (Warwick, RI) has played in 38 games, starting all of
them. He is batting .254 with 33 runs, 36 hits, eight doubles, one
triple, one home run, 21 RBI, and eight stolen bases. |

|
Freshman shortstop Adolfo
Perez (Miami, FL) has played in 36 games, starting 35 of them.
He is batting .265 with 33 runs, 36 hits, 14 doubles, two home runs,
17 RBI and three stolen bases. |

|
Junior pitcher John
Botelho (Tiverton, RI) has appeared in 11 games, starting seven
of them. He is 2-4 with a 5.63 ERA, two complete games and 43
strikeouts in 46.1 innings. |

|
|
Freshman infielder Ray
De La Cruz (Pawtucket, RI) has played in 37 games, starting 35
of them. He is batting .246 with 31 runs, 35 hits, nine doubles, one
triple, nine RBI, and seven stolen bases. |

|
|
Senior pitcher Dan
Furtado (East Providence, RI) has appeared in 12 games, starting
one of them. He is 1-0 with a 2.43 ERA, four saves and 23 strikeouts
in 29.2 innings. |

|
|
Senior third baseman Brian
Peer (Windsor, CT) has played in 34 games, starting 32 of them.
He is batting .289 with 20 runs, 33 hits, nine doubles, two home
runs and 22 RBI. |

|
Sophomore infielder Mike
Luke (Cranston, RI) has played in 15 games, starting nine of
them. He is batting .194 with two runs, seven hits, one double and
seven RBI. |

|
Sophomore pitcher Brian
Baker (Newport, RI) has appeared in nine games, starting two of
them. He is 1-3 with a 4.76 ERA and 13 strikeouts in 28.1 innings. |

|
Freshman pitcher Jason
DeCesare (North Providence, RI) has appeared in seven games,
starting three of them. He is 1-0 with a 4.12 ERA, two saves and 16
strikeouts in 24.0 innings. |

|
Sophomore pitcher Jim
Milano (Johnston, RI) has appeared in eight games, starting
seven of them. He is 3-4 with a 6.15 ERA, one complete game and 35
strikeouts in 41.0 innings. |

|
|
Sophomore pitcher Alex
Crotteau (Portsmouth, RI) has appeared in six games, starting
five of them. He is 1-1 with a 7.77 ERA and ten strikeouts in 22.0
innings. |

|
|
Freshman pitcher Brian
Farley (North Providence, RI) has appeared in eight games. He is
2-0 with a 13.50 ERA and eight strikeouts in 12.2 innings. |

Sophomore catcher Chris
Smaldone (Johnston, RI) has played in 32 games, starting all of
them. He is batting .254 with 18 runs, 29 hits, two doubles, 14 RBI
and five stolen bases. |

|
|
Freshman outfielder Evan
Aten (Middletown, RI) has played in 28 games, starting 23 of
them. He is batting .173 with five runs, 13 hits, four doubles, one
home run and eight RBI. |
|
|
|
Sophomore
catcher/infielder Anthony Pacitto (Johnston, RI) has played
in 24 games, starting 20 of them. He is batting .253 with 15 runs,
19 hits, two doubles, 11 RBI and one stolen base. |
|
|
|
Freshman pitcher Wade
Briggs (Woonsocket, RI) has appeared in eight games, starting
one of them. He is 2-1 with an 6.27 ERA and 17 strikeouts in 18.2
innings. |
|
|
|
Junior outfielder Chris
Higgins (Swansea, MA) has played in three games, starting all
of them. He is batting .500 with three runs, four hits, one triple
and three RBI. Higgins injured his ankle during the club’s trip to
Florida and is out indefinitely. |
