Rhode Island College Softball Update #6

(20-13-1 Overall; 9-4-1 Second Place in the Little East Conference)

Providence, RI--Head Coach Maria Morin’s Anchorwomen are 20-13-1 overall and 9-4-1 in the Little East Conference. RIC won its Little East Conference Tournament opening round game vs. UMass-Boston, 6-1, on Apr. 29. The Anchorwomen then dropped a heartbreaker to Plymouth State, 1-0, before falling to eventual champion Keene State, 3-1, in the double-elimination round, hosted by Western Connecticut on May 2-3.

Senior first baseman Michele Fanelli (Pembroke Pines, FL) has played in 33 games, starting all of them. She is batting .390 with 16 runs, 39 hits, 12 doubles and 23 RBI.

Junior pitcher/designated player Kim Warrington (North Kingstown, RI) has appeared in 28 games, starting 25 of them. She is 15-10 with a 1.98 ERA, 21 complete games, three shutouts and 161 strikeouts in 169.2 innings. As a hitter, she has played in 31 games, starting all of them. She is batting .261 with 13 runs, 24 hits, four doubles, three triples and 16 RBI.

Sophomore pitcher/left fielder Casey Soares (Swansea, MA) has appeared in 11 games, starting eight of them. She is 5-2 with a 0.88 ERA, five complete games, one shutout and 60 strikeouts in 48.0 innings pitched. As a hitter, she has played in 31 games, starting all of them. She is batting .315 with 22 runs, 28 hits, four doubles and five triples, 12 RBI and four stolen bases.

Senior second basemen Caitlin Schimmel (Cumberland, RI) has played in 34 games, starting 33 of them. She is batting .294 with 15 runs, 20 hits, two doubles, ten RBI and two stolen bases.

Junior center fielder Sue Gaber (Colchester, CT) has played in 34 games, starting all of them. She is batting .286 with 15 runs, 24 hits, eight RBI and one stolen base.

Sophomore catcher Rachael Caldwell (Richmond, RI) has played in 32 games, starting all of them. She is batting .303 with 17 runs, 30 hits, six doubles, 12 RBI and one stolen base.

Senior shortstop Melanie Miller (Warwick, RI) has played in 34 games, starting all of them. She is batting .269 with 19 runs, 24 hits, two double, three triples, 12 RBI and one stolen base.

Sophomore infielder Amy Machado (Newport, RI) has played in 30 games, starting 29 of them. She is batting .292 with 13 runs, 26 hits, three doubles, 11 RBI and one stolen base.

Junior outfielder Hollie Benevides (North Dighton, MA) has played in 18 games, starting 12 of them. She is batting .345 with seven runs, ten hits, four RBI and one stolen base.

Freshman infielder Ashley Brooks (Hamden, CT) has played in 21 games, starting 15 of them. She is batting .366 with ten runs, 15 hits and five RBI.

Freshman outfielder Katie Benevides (North Dighton, MA) has played in 15 games, starting 13 of them. She is batting .217 with three runs, five hits and one RBI.

Sophomore infielder Aimee Reed (Pawcatuck, CT) has played in ten games, starting four of them. She is batting .176 with one run, three hits and one RBI.

Freshman outfielder Megan Ponte (South Kingstown, RI) has played in 23 games, starting 19 of them. She is batting .229 with six runs, 11 hits, six RBI and four stolen bases.

Freshman outfielder Andree Sitnik (Lincoln, RI) has played in 19 games, starting three of them. She is batting .083, has one hit, has scored one run and has two stolen bases on the season.

Freshman outfielder Casie Lyons (Hudson, MA) has played five games, starting three of them. She has scored one run on the season.

Freshman pitcher Laura Papa (Coventry, RI) has appeared in three games, starting one of them. She is 0-1 with a 21.00 ERA and two strikeouts in 1.1 innings pitches.
