Womens Outdoor Track and Field Season Summary |

RIC competed at the 2003
New England Div. III Championships, hosted by Bates on May 1-3. RIC
placed 23rd (23 teams) with a team score of 1.0. |

|
|
Rhode Island College
hosted the 2003 Little East/MASCAC Alliance Championships on Sunday,
Apr. 27. RIC placed fifth overall (10 teams) and was third (five
teams) among Little East institutions. |

Senior Joanne Pora
(Attleboro, MA) closed out her career at the New England Div.
III Championships. Pora earned All-New England honors in the
javelin, placing eighth with a distance of 10803.00". She
earned All-Alliance/Little East honors in the javelin, placing sixth
at 10504.00" at the 2003 Little East Conference/MASCAC
Alliance Championships. Pora also placed tenth in the shot with a
distance of 2604.25" at the Alliance Championships. |

She placed sixth in the
javelin with a distance of 9904.00"
and sixth in the hammer with a distance of 11203.00"
at the Bridgewater State
College Invitational. Pora placed sixth in the hammer with a
distance of 29.52 meters at the RIC Invitational. She placed 12th
in the javelin with a distance of 29.00 meters and 15th
in the hammer with a distance of 33.68 meters at the Husky Spring
Open. |

As a junior in 2002, Pora
placed ninth in the javelin with a distance of 9802.50", 12th
in the shot with a season-best distance of 2801.75" and 15th
in the hammer with a distance of 10209.70" at the 2002
Little East Conference/MASCAC Alliance Championships. Pora placed 11th
in the hammer with a season-best distance of 11302.50" at
the Bernard Solomon Husky Invitational. Pora placed third in the
javelin with a season-best distance of 10109.00" at the
Rhode Island College Invitational. |

As a sophomore in 2001,
she placed seventh in both the hammer and the javelin with distances
of 11110.00" and 9703.00" respectively at the 2001
Little East Conference/MASCAC Alliance Championships. Her mark in
the javelin was a season-best throw for her. Pora placed fifth in
the hammer at 11300.00", a season-best performance, and
eighth in the javelin at 93'09.00" at the Silfen Invitational.
She placed eighth in the hammer throw at 11202.00" and
eighth in javelin at 9003.00" at the Fitchburg State
Invitational. Pora placed eighth in the javelin at 9003.00"
and 15th in the hammer at 10510.00" at the RIC
Invitational. |

As a freshman in 2000,
Pora was earned All-Alliance/Little East honors in the javelin,
placing sixth at 8901.00" at the 2000 Little East
Conference/MASCAC Alliance Championships. She also placed 14th
in the discus with a distance of 8301.00" at the same meet.
Pora recorded distances of 2309.50" in the shot, 6306.00"
in the discus and 8403.00" in the javelin at the Connecticut
College Invitational. Pora placed 18th in the shot with a
distance of 2403.00", 17th in the discus with a
distance of 6705.00" and 14th in the javelin at
8401.00" at the Springfield College Invitational. Pora
placed third in the javelin at 8703.00" and 14th
in the discus at 6411.00" at the Rhode Island College
Invitational. She placed third in the javelin at 9109.00" at
the Bridgewater State College Invitational. |

Pora is also a three-year
letterwinner in indoor track and field at RIC. She is a nursing
major and a 1999 graduate of Attleboro High School. |

Sophomore Courtney
Gardiner (Warwick, RI)
earned All-Alliance/Little East honors in four events at the 2003
Little East Conference/MASCAC Alliance Championships. She placed
seventh in the long jump and fifth in the triple jump with leaps of
1509.00" and 3106.75" respectively. Gardiner placed
third as part of the 4 x 100 meter relay team and second as part of
the 4 x 400 meter relay team with times of 52.34 and 4:16.15
respectively. |

She
placed 15th in the triple jump
with a distance of 9.14 meters at
the Bernard Solomon Husky Invitational. Gardiner placed third in the
long jump with a leap of 1508.50" and fourth in the triple
jump with a distance of 3202.50" at the Bridgewater State
College Invitational. She placed third in the triple jump with a
distance of 3200.00" and fourth in the long jump with a leap
of 1409.50" at the RIC Invitational. Gardiner placed 12th
in the triple jump with a leap of 9.53 meters at the Husky Spring
Open. |

Sophomore Rebecca
Horton (Seekonk, MA) placed 15th in the 1,500 meters
with a time of 5:34.70 at the 2003 Little East Conference/MASCAC
Alliance Championships. Horton placed 23rd
in the 1,500 meters with a time of 5:38.80 at
the Bernard Solomon Husky Invitational. She placed 17th
in the 1,500 meters with a time of 5:45.62 at the Bridgewater State
College Invitational. Horton placed 23rd in the 1,500
meters with a time of 5:38.80 at the RIC Invitational. |

Sophomore Jessica
Leonard (Warwick, RI) placed 21st in the hammer with
a distance of 12004.00" at the ECAC Div. III Championships.
She earned All-Alliance/Little East honors in the hammer, placing
third with a throw of 13300.00" at the 2003 Little East
Conference/MASCAC Alliance Championships. She also placed ninth in
the shot at 2609.75" at the Alliance Championships. |

Leonard placed eighth in
the hammer with a distance of 38.51 meters and 19th in
the shot with a distance of 8.33 meters
at the Bernard Solomon Husky Invitational. She placed third in the
hammer with a distance of 37.73 meters at the RIC Invitational.
Leonard placed ninth in the hammer with a distance of 38.21 meters
at the Husky Spring Open. |

Sophomore Kate
McCalligett (Warwick, RI) was named the teams MVP,
McCalligett placed 13th in the 400 meters with a time of
1:00.24 and 24th in the 200 meters with a time of 26.87
at the ECAC Div. III Championships. She placed 12th in
the 400 meters with a time of 1:01.19 at the New England Div. III
Championships. |

All-Alliance/Little East honors in four events at the 2003 Little
East Conference/MASCAC Alliance Championships. She placed second in
the 400 meters and third in the 200 meters with times of 1:00.51 and
26.25 respectively. McCalligett placed third as part of the 4 x 100
meter relay team and second as part of the 4 x 400 meter relay team
with times of 52.34 and 4:16.15 respectively |

fourth in the 200 meters with a time of 27.10 at the RIC

(Warwick, RI) earned
All-Alliance/Little East honors in the 1,500 meters, placing fifth
with a time of 5:06.73, at the 2003 Little East Conference/MASCAC

team, which placed second with a time of 4:16.15. She
placed 18th in the 800 meters

meters with a time of 2:36.70 at the RIC Invitational. Cadden placed
36th in the 800 meters with a time of 2:41.19 and 38th
in the 1,500 meters with a time of 5:22.10 at the Husky Spring Open. |

Hjerpe (Cranston, RI) placed
ninth in the 1,500 meters with a time of 5:19.91 at the 2003 Little

the Bernard Solomon Husky Invitational. She placed 20th
in the 1,500 meters with a time of 5:28.00 at the RIC Invitational.
Hjerpe placed 54th in the 1,500 meters with a time of
5:34.42 at the Husky Spring Open. |

(Cumberland, RI) placed 24th in the 400 meter hurdles

She earned
All-Alliance/Little East honors in four events at the 2003 Little
East Conference/MASCAC Alliance Championships. She placed fourth in
the 100 meters with a time of 13.01 and sixth in the 400 meter
hurdles with a time of 1:09.42. Skorupa placed third as part of the
4 x 100 meter relay and second as part of the 4 x 400 meter relay
with times of 52.34 and 4:16.15 respectively. |

12th in the 400 meter hurdles with a time of 1:09.06 at
the Bernard Solomon Husky Invitational. She placed third in the 400
meter hurdles with a time of 1:08.97 and fifth in the 100 meters
with a time of 13.25 at the Bridgewater State College Invitational.
Skorupa placed second in
the 100 meters with a time of 12.80 and third in the 400 meter
hurdles with a time of 67.60 at the RIC Invitational. She placed 11th
in the 400 meter hurdles with a time of 1:10.11 at the Husky Spring
Open. |
