Providence, RI —Western
Connecticut State University improved to 12-2 overall and 3-1 in the
Little East Conference with a 2-0 shutout over Rhode Island College
in collegiate women’s soccer action. The loss drops RIC to 6-7-1
overall and 2-2-1 in the LEC. |

Nicole Corbin
scored what proved to be the eventual game-winner in the 22nd
minute. Christie Gillis added an insurance goal in the 81st
minute. Cherie Bailey assisted on both goals. Kristen
Bartholomew made three saves in net to earn the shutout. |

The game marked the final
home regular season contest for RIC senior co-captain Allison
Vales. She has started and played in every game for RIC since
her freshman season in 1999, a span of 66 games. She currently has
eight career goals and five career assists for 21 career points as
an Anchorwoman. She is ninth all-time in both goals and points in
RIC women’s soccer history. She was a 2001 Second Team All-Little
East Conference selection as a midfielder. |
