Providence, RI—Rhode Island College defeated Western Connecticut State University, 71-66, in women’s collegiate basketball action. The win lifts RIC to 2-13 overall and 1-5 in the Little East Conference, while the loss drops WCSU to 6-10 overall and 2-4 in the LEC. |

The win gives RIC its first conference win and snaps a 12-game losing streak. |

Liz Shields led RIC, which had three starters foul out of the contest, with 21 points, seven steals and six assists. Becca Bissonnette had 11 points and 12 rebounds. Angela Sarette had 15 points, seven rebounds and four steals. |

Kristie Brickner had 20 points in a losing effort for the Colonials. |

In upcoming action, RIC will host Eastern Connecticut on Saturday, Jan. 25. |
