2002-03 Women’s Basketball Season Summary

Overall; 1-13 (eighth place) in the Little East Conference

Coach Mike Kelley’s team was 3-23 overall and 1-13
(eighth place) in the Little East Conference. RIC was eliminated in
the opening round of the 2003 LEC Tournament to eventual champion
Southern Maine. |

|
Senior guard
Alicia Hersperger (Providence,
RI)
was the lone senior on this year’s team. The captain
played in 26 games, starting six of them. She averaged 1.3 points and
2.0 rebounds per game. |
|
|
|
As a junior in
2001-02, Hersperger played in 18 games. She averaged 0.6 points and
0.8 rebounds per game. |
|
|
|
As a sophomore
in 2000-01, she played in 14 games. Hersperger averaged 0.1 points and
0.3 rebounds per game. |
|
|
|
As a freshman
in 1999-00, Hersperger played in 19 games. She averaged 0.6 points,
0.4 rebounds 0.1 assists per game. |
|
|
|
She is a
criminal justice major and a 1999 graduate of Classical High School |

|
|
Junior guard
Angela Sarette (Putnam,
CT)
played in 24 games, starting all of them. She averaged
15.2 points, 5.0 rebounds, 1.8 assists and 3.6 steals per game. She
posted season-highs of 26 points vs. Wesleyan on Jan. 9, ten rebounds
vs. Mount St. Vincent on Nov. 24, five assists vs. Plymouth State on
Feb. 22 and seven steals vs. Pine Manor on Jan. 16. |

Junior forward
Liz Shields (Warwick,
RI)
played in 24 games, starting all of them. She averaged
11.9 points, 5.5 rebounds, and 2.8 steals per game. She registered
season-highs of 24 points vs. Newbury on Jan. 30, ten rebounds vs.
UMass-Boston on Dec. 14 , eight assists vs. Keene State on Feb. 8 and
eight steals vs. Plymouth State on Jan. 18. |

Junior guard
Abby Ferri (Greene,
RI)
played in 26 games, starting all of them. She averaged
9.0 points, 3.9 rebounds, 2.1 assists and 2.2 steals per game. She
recorded season-highs of 20 points vs. UMass-Boston on Feb. 1, six
rebounds on several occasions, six assists and six steals vs. Mount
St. Vincent on Nov. 24. |

Sophomore
forward Becca Bissonnette (Danielson,
CT)
played in 25 games, starting all of them. She averaged
7.7 points and 6.5 rebounds per game. She posted season-highs of 16
points vs. Southern Maine on Jan. 14 and 13 rebounds vs. Newbury on
Jan. 13. |

Sophomore
forward Liz Valeika (Woonsocket,
RI)
was unable to come back from pre-season knee surgery and missed the
entire year. |

|
|
Freshman
forward Liz Barrette (North
Providence, RI)
played in 26
games, starting one of them. She averaged 4.7 points and 3.7 rebounds
per game. She recorded season-highs of 18 points vs. Plymouth State
on Feb. 22, 14 rebounds, which was also a team high for the season,
vs. UMass-Dartmouth on Jan. 28. |

Freshman
forward Stacy Archambault (Woonsocket,
RI)
played in 24 games, starting 20 of them. She averaged
2.3 points and 4.2 rebounds per game. She had a season-high six points
vs. Georgian Court on Nov. 23 and nine rebounds vs. Salve Regina on
Feb. 5. Archambault severely injured her knee vs. UMass-Dartmouth,
ending her season prematurely. |

Freshman guard
Lynn Bertherman (Slatersville,
RI)
played in 25 games, starting one of them. She averaged
1.5 points and 1.4 rebounds per game. She posted season-highs of 10
points vs. UMass-Boston on Dec. 14, five rebounds vs. Newbury on Jan.
30, and four assists vs. UMass-Boston on Dec. 14. |

Freshman
forward Betsy Bliven (Charlestown, RI) played in 17 games,
starting three of them. She averaged 1.6 points and 2.5 rebounds per
game before a knee injury sidelined her for the remainder of the
season. She recorded season-highs of nine points vs. UMass-Boston on
Dec. 14, and seven rebounds vs. Georgian Court on Nov. 23.
