2002-03 Season Summary |

Coach Kevin Jacksons team closed out the 2002-03 season with a
39th place finish (43 teams) at the ECAC Div. III
Championships, hosted by Tufts University on Mar. 7-8, with a team
score of 3.0 points. |
|
|
|
The Anchormen team competed at the New England Div. III Championships,
hosted by MIT, on Feb 21-22. RIC finished 13th (22 teams)
with a score of 19. |
|
|
|
RIC competed at the Little East Conference/MASCAC Alliance
Championships, hosted by Southern Maine, on Feb. 15. RIC placed fifth
overall and fourth in the Little East with a score of 69.
|
|
|
|
Senior Brian Carney (Barrington, RI) closed out his indoor
career, placing 17th in the 400 meters with a time of
1:02.09 at the Southern Maine Invitational. He placed ninth in the
long jump with a leap of 1700.00 at the same meet. Carney placed 17th
in the long jump with a leap of 1511.00 at the Greater Boston Track
Club Invitational. He placed 31st in the 400 meters with a
time of 1:05.29 and eighth in the long jump with a leap of 4.90 meters
at the Harvard Invitational. Carney placed eighth in the long jump
with a leap of 1607.00 and placed 17th in the 400 meters
with a time of 1:02.35 at the Brown Invitational. |

As a junior in 2001-02, Carney ran a season-best time of 7.33 in the
55 meter dash at the Wheaton Invitational. He jumped a season-best
1803.25 in the long jump at the Alliance Championships. He ran a
season-best time of 28.46 in the 200 meters and placed tenth in the
long jump with a distance of 1511.00 at the Brown Invitational. |

|
As a sophomore in 2000-01, he placed 20th in the long jump
with a leap of 4.85 meters at the Alliance Championships. Carney
placed 19th in the 600 meters with a time of 1:57.03 at the
same meet. He placed sixth in the long jump with a season-high leap of
4.93 meters at the Tufts Invitational. He placed ninth in the long
jump with a leap of 4.72 meters at the Smith College Invitational.
Carney placed 30th in the long jump, recording a distance
of 4.70 meters, at the Brandeis Invitational. |

As a freshman in 1999-00, Carney placed second in the long jump,
registering a season-high distance of 1801.75, at the second leg of
the Quad Cup, hosted by Coast Guard. He placed 14th in the
long jump with a distance of 1704.25 at the Alliance Championships.
Carney placed 14th in the 600 meters with a time of 1:47.22
at the same meet. Carney placed sixth in the long jump with a distance
of 1701.50 at the fourth leg of the Quad Cup, hosted by Bowdoin
College. He placed tenth in the 600 meters with a time of 1:49.33 at
the same meet. Carney recorded times of 1:38.53, placing 11th, and
2:56.40, placing 14th, in the 600 and 1,000 meters respectively at the
third leg of the Quad Cup, hosted by Bowdoin College. |

He is a criminal justice major and a 1999 graduate of Barrington High
School. Carney is also a four-year letterwinner in mens cross country
and will participate in outdoor track this season. |
|
|
|
Senior Robert Wahnon (Framingham, MA) placed 14th in
the 600 meters with a time of 1:40.93 at the Alliance Championships.
Wahnon placed 20th in the 800 meters with a time of 2:25.60
at the Southern Maine Invitational. |
|
|
|
He is a management major and a 1998 graduate of Ashland High School. |

|
|
Junior Mike Basilico (Johnston, RI) placed 27th in
the 3,000 meters with a time of 9:54.60 at the Alliance Championships.
He placed fifth in the 5,000 meters with a time of 16:14.23 at the
Southern Maine Invitational. |

|
|
Junior Charles Kuti (Providence, RI) earned All-Alliance/Little
East honors in the long jump, placing sixth with a leap of 1900.50.
He placed 15th in the preliminary round of the 55 meters
with a time of 7.09. He placed 16th in the 200 meters with
a time of 25.30. He finished third in the 55 meters with a time of
6.92 at the Southern Maine Invitational. He placed eighth in the 200
meters with a time of 25.14 and fourth in the long jump with a leap of
1903.25 at the same meet. |

Junior Joseph Padykula (Seekonk, MA) placed 19th in
the shot with a distance of 3301.25 at the Alliance Championships.
He placed eighth in the weight throw with a distance of 4107.75 at
the same meet. Padykula placed 12th in the shot with a
distance of 3309.25 at the Southern Maine Invitational He placed 16th
in the weight throw with a distance of 3505.75 at the same meet.
Padykula placed tenth in the weight throw with a distance of 3407.75
at the Greater Boston Track Club Invitational. He placed 21st
in the weight throw with a distance of 3606.25 at the Yale
Invitational. Padykula placed seventh in the weight throw with a
distance of 11.11 meters at Harvard Invitational. He placed ninth in
the weight throw with a distance of 2908.25 at the Brown
Invitational. |

Junior James Peluso (Johnston, RI) earned All-Alliance/Little
East honors in the pole vault, placing fourth with an effort of
1200.75. He established a new school record for the pole vault with
that height. He placed second in the pole vault with a 12.00.00
effort at the Southern Maine Invitational. |
|

He placed third in the 800 meters with a time of 1:57.37 at the
Southern Maine Invitational. Rudd placed ninth in the mile with a time
of 4:29.18 at the Greater Boston Track Club Invitational. He placed
third in the 800 meters with a time of 2:00.04 at the Yale
Invitational. Rudd placed third in the mile with a time of 4:30.15 at
the Harvard Invitational. He placed fourth in the 1,000 meters with a
time of 2:39.23 at the Brown Invitational. |

Sophomore German Cardona (Pawtucket, RI) placed 17th
in the preliminary round of the 55 meters with a time of 7.31 at the
Alliance Championships. He placed 17th in the 200 meters
with a time of 25.43 at the same meet. Cardona placed tenth in the
preliminary round of the 55 meter dash with a time of 7.30 at the
Southern Maine Invitational. He placed 11th in the 200
meters with a time of 25.52 at the same meet. |

Sophomore Matt Faria (Seekonk, MA) placed 10th in
the 800 meters with a time of 2:14.32 at the Harvard Invitational. |

Sophomore Chris Fernandes (Cumberland, RI) placed 15th
in the 200 meters with a time of 25.19 at the Alliance Championships.
He placed 11th in the preliminary round of the 55 meter
hurdles with a time of 9.15 at the same meet. Fernandes placed tenth
in the 200 meters with a time of 25.37 at the Southern Maine
Invitational. He placed sixth in the 55 meter hurdles with a time of
9.17 at the same meet. Fernandes recorded a time of 25.58 in the
preliminary round of the 200 meters at the Greater Boston Track Club
Invitational. He placed 19th in the 200 meters with a time
of 25.15 at the Harvard Invitational. Fernandes placed fourth in the
300 meters with a time of 39.62 at the Brown Invitational,
establishing a new RIC record in the process. |

Sophomore Nicholas Heufelder (Falmouth, MA) placed 11th
in the long jump with a leap of 1801.00at the Alliance
Championships. He placed 13th in the triple jump with a
leap of 3510.00. He placed eighth in the long jump with a leap of
1702.75 at the Southern Maine Invitational. He placed fifth in the
triple jump with a leap of 3604.75 at the same meet. |

Sophomore Joe Parenteau (Smithfield, RI) placed 12th
as part of the distance medley relay team with a time of 10:24.19 at
the ECAC Championships, establishing a new RIC record in the process.
He earned All-New England honors as part of the distance medley relay
team, which placed second with a time of 10:30.54. He earned
All-Alliance/Little East honors in the 1,500 meters, placing fourth
with a time of 4:06.08. He placed 15th in the 3,000 meters
with a time of 9:23.11 at the same meet. |

Parenteau placed fifth in the mile with a time of 4:31.21 at the
Southern Maine Invitational. He placed seventh in the 800 meters with
a time of 2:01.79 at the same meet. He placed 25th in the
mile with a time of 4:29.91 at the Terrier Classic. He placed 13th
in the mile with a time of 4:31.08 at the Greater Boston Track Club
Invitational. Parenteau placed seventh in the 3,000 meters with a time
of 9:06.29 at the Yale Invitational. He placed fourth in the 3,000
meters with a time of 9:09.95 at the Harvard Invitational. Parenteau
placed eighth in mile with a time of 4:25.90 at the Brown
Invitational. |

Sophomore Marc Piette (Woonsocket, RI) placed 24th
in the weight throw with a distance of 13.15 meters at the ECAC
Championships. He placed 13th in the weight throw with a
distance of 4702.25 at the New England Championships. Piette earned
All-Alliance/Little East honors in the weight throw and the shot,
placing first with a distance of 4904.50 and seventh with a distance
of 4002.25 respectively. |

Piette placed third in the shot with a distance of 4102.50 at the
Southern Maine Invitational. He placed fourth in the weight throw with
a distance of 4800.50 at the same meet. He placed ninth in the
weight throw with a distance of 4511.75 at the Terrier Classic.
Piette placed third in the weight throw with a distance of 4811.5 at
the Greater Boston Track Club Invitational. He placed ninth in the
weight throw with a distance of 4502.50 at the Yale Invitational.
Piette placed third in the weight throw with a distance of 14.15
meters and sixth in the shot with a distance of 12.00 meters at the
Harvard Invitational. He placed third in the weight throw with a
distance of 4406.25 and placed sixth in the shot with a distance of
3910.50 at the Brown Invitational. |

Sophomore Josh Precourt (Woonsocket, RI) placed 12th
as part of the distance medley relay team with a time of 10:24.19 at
the ECAC Championships, establishing a new RIC record in the process.
He earned All-New England honors as part of the distance medley relay
team, which placed second with a time of 10:30.54. He placed 12th
in the 400 meters with a time of 54.51 at the Alliance Championships.
Precourt placed tenth in the 400 meters with a time of 55.02 at the
Southern Maine Invitational. He placed seventh in the 800 meters with
a time of 2:15.75 at the Brown Invitational. |

Freshman Michael Januario (Bristol, RI) placed 12th
in the preliminary round of the 55 meters with a time of 7.38 at the
Southern Maine Invitational. He finished 17th in the 200
meters with a time of 26.99 at the same meet. Januario recorded a time
of 26.69 in the preliminary round of the 200 meters at the Greater
Boston Track Club Invitational. He placed 22nd in the 200
meters with a time of 26.44 at the Harvard Invitational. Januario
placed 18th in the 400 meters with a time of 1:04.19 at the
Brown Invitational. |

Freshman Derek Freitas (North Kingstown) placed 14th
in the 800 meters with a time of 2:20.77 at the Alliance
Championships. He placed 17th in the mile with a time of
5:19.67 at the Southern Maine Invitational. He placed 19th
in the 800 meters with a time of 2:22.89 at the same meet. |

Freshman Manny Karngar (Providence, RI) earned All-ECAC honors
in the 800 meters, placing sixth with a time of 1:54.51. He placed 12th
as part of the distance medley relay team with a time of 10:24.19 at
the ECAC Championships, establishing a new RIC record in the process. |
|
|
|
Karngar earned All-New England honors in the 800 meters, placing first
with a time of 1:53.96 and breaking his own school record in that
event. Karngar also earned All-New England honors as part of the
distance medley relay team, which placed second with a time of
10:30.54. |
|
|
|
He earned All-Alliance/Little East honors in the 400 and 800 meters.
He placed first in the 400 meters with a school-record time of 50:04.
He placed second in the 800 meters with a time of 1:58.08. |
|
|
|
Karngar placed first in the 400 meters with a school-record time of
51:21 at the Southern Maine Invitational. He placed 13th in
the mile with a time of 4:24.80 at the Terrier Classic, placing first
among Div. III competitors and setting a new Rhode Island College
record. He placed first in the 800 meters with a time of 1:54.17,
finishing ahead of several Div. I competitors, at the Greater Boston
Track Club Invitational. Karngar placed second in the 800 meters with
a time of 1:55.2 at the Yale Invitational. He placed first in the 800
meters with a time of 1:55.69 at the Harvard Invitational. Karngar
placed second in the 1,000 meters with a time of 2:35.12 at the Brown
Invitational. |

Freshman Nick Palazzo (Providence, RI) earned
All-Alliance/Little East honors in the weight throw, placing fourth
with a distance of 4511.25. He placed 25th in the shot
with a distance of 2801.00 at the same meet. Palazzo placed 17th
in the shot with a distance of 2906.50 at the Southern Maine
Invitational. He placed ninth in the weight throw with a distance of
4211.00 at the same meet. Palazzo placed sixth in the weight throw
with a distance of 4309.75 at the Greater Boston Track Club
Invitational. He placed 11th in the weight throw with a
distance of 4404.25 at the Yale Invitational. Palazzo placed fifth
in the weight throw with a distance of 12.80 meters at the Harvard
Invitational. He placed eighth in the weight throw with a distance of
3209.00 and placed 11th in the shot with a distance of
2309.50 at the Brown Invitational. |
