Rhode Island College Softball Update #1

(6-5 Overall; 0-0 in the Little
East Conference)

RI--Head
Coach Maria Morin’s Anchorwomen are 6-5 overall and have yet to
see action in the Little East Conference. The Anchorwomen returned
home from their Spring Break trip to California with a 3-5 record
against very tough competition. RIC made itself right at home, winning
all three of its contests last week. They opened with a 3-0 win over
Johnson and Wales on Mar. 21 and followed it up by sweeping Salve
Regina, 4-1, and 16-0 on Mar. 22. |

Senior
first baseman Michele Fanelli (Pembroke
Pines, FL)
has played in 11 games, starting all of them. She is batting .393 with
four runs, 11 hits, three doubles and seven RBI. |

|
|
Junior
pitcher/designated player Kim Warrington (North
Kingstown, RI)
has
appeared in ten games, starting eight of them. She is 5-3 with a 2.20
ERA, seven complete games, one shutout and 61 strikeouts in 63.2
innings. As a hitter, she has played in 11 games, starting all of
them. She is batting .290 with four runs, nine hits, two doubles, one
triple and five RBI. Warrington tossed a no-hitter and struck out 11
batters in the 4-1 win over Salve Regina. |

Sophomore
pitcher/left fielder Casey Soares (Swansea,
MA)
has
appeared in two games, starting both of them. She is 1-1 with a 0.00
ERA and five strikeouts in 6.1 innings pitched. As a hitter, she has
played in eight games, starting all of them. She is batting .353 with
five runs, six hits, one triple, two RBI and one stolen base. |

second basemen Caitlin Schimmel (Cumberland, RI) has played in
11 games, starting all of them. She is batting .250 with three runs,
five hits, five RBI and one stolen base. Schimmel was 2-3 with an RBI
in the 4-1 win over Salve Regina. |

center fielder Sue Gaber (Colchester, CT) has played in 11
games, starting all of them. She is batting .188 with three runs and
three hits. |

Senior
shortstop Melanie Miller (Warwick, RI) has played in 11 games,
starting all of them. She is batting .219 with six runs, seven hits,
three RBI and one stolen base. |

catcher Rachael Caldwell (Richmond, RI) has played in 11 games,
starting all of them. She is batting .172 with six runs, five hits and
18 RBI. |

infielder Amy Machado (Newport, RI) has played in seven games,
starting all of them. She is batting .211 with three runs, four hits
and one stolen base. |

infielder Aimee Reed (Pawcatuck, CT) has played in five games,
starting one of them. |

outfielder Hollie Benevides (North Dighton, MA) has played in
five games, starting two of them. She is batting .571 with four runs,
four hits, four RBI and one stolen base. She was 2-3 with four RBI in
the 16-0 win over Salve Regina. |

outfielder Katie Benevides (North Dighton, MA) has
played in six games, starting five of them. She is batting .333 with
two runs, four hits and one RBI. Benevides was 3-3 in the 16-0 win
over Salve Regina. |

infielder Ashley Brooks (Hamden, CT) has played in ten games,
starting eight of them. She is batting .318 with four runs, seven hits
and three RBI. She was 5-7 in the doubleheader sweep of Salve Regina,
knocking in three runs. |

outfielder Andree Sitnik (Lincoln, RI) has played in eight
games, starting one of them. She has scored one run and has one stolen
base on the season. |

outfielder Megan Ponte (South Kingstown, RI) has played in
seven games, starting all of them. She is batting .200 with two runs,
three hits, three RBI and three stolen bases. |

starting two of them. She has scored one run on the season. |

pitcher Laura Papa (Coventry, RI) has appeared in three games,
starting one of them. She is 0-1 with a 21.00 ERA and two strikeouts
in 1.1 innings pitches. |

action, RIC will play at Coast Guard on Tuesday, Mar. 25, Roger
Williams on Thursday, Mar. 27 and host Southern Maine on Saturday,
Mar. 29. |
