in season-opener. |

Providence, RI— Rhode
Island College fell to Johnson & Wales, 3-1 (30-24, 27-30,
30-17, 30-11) in its season-opening match at home on Sept. 9. The
Anchorwomen captured game two to even the match but could not hold
on for the victory. |

RIC was led by freshman
middle hitter Erin Miga (Cranston, RI) who tallied a
match-high 11 kills, including four in the Anchorwomen’s game two
victory. She also had a team-high three blocks and added six digs.
Also performing well for RIC was freshman middle hitter Kari
Geisler (Derry, NH) who contributed five kills and a team-high
seven service aces. Freshman setter Kara Sarcione (Londonderry,
NH) had 19 assists. |

Leading the way for
Johnson & Wales were sophomore outside hitter Erica Young
(Middletown, MD) and junior outside hitter Annemarie Proto
(Bellmore, NY) who each had 10 kills. Young had a match-high 11
service aces while Proto contributed a match-high 10 digs. |

In upcoming action, RIC
will play at the Coast Guard Invitational on Saturday, Sept. 13. |
