Defeat Johnson and Wales In Overtime |
|
Providence, RI— The
Rhode Island College Anchorwomen defeated the Johnson and Wales
University Wildcats, 1-0 in overtime, at home on Tuesday, Sept. 16.
Freshman forward Erika Haaland (North Dartmouth, MA) scored
the game winning goal 4:44 into overtime to give RIC the victory. |

The game was a back and
forth battle with both teams’ goalkeepers keeping the opposing
offenses in check with great saves. In net for RIC was junior Melissa
Carpentier (Woonsocket, RI) who stopped five shots in recording
her first shutout of the season and the 13th of her
career, tying all-time shutout leader, and current RIC
assistant coach, Jessica Knobel (Robitaille). For Johnson and
Wales, senior goalkeeper Jessica Obst (Columbia, MD) made 10
saves on the afternoon and got a hand on Haaland’s shot but could
not stop it. Haaland received a crossing pass from freshman
midfielder Caitlin Gavin (Portsmouth, RI) and redirected the
ball into the net passed a diving Obst. |
