Roger Williams
Scores Late Goal To Secure Victory |
|
Providence, RI— The
Rhode Island College Anchormen were defeated, 3-2, by the Roger
Williams University Hawks on Wednesday, Oct. 1 at RIC. Hawk freshman
defender Rich Reddington (Naugatuck, CT) chipped in the
game-winning goal off of senior forward Andrew Combra’s
(Portsmouth, RI) free kick with just 47 seconds remaining in the
tilt. |

RWU jumped out to an
early 1-0 lead 4:43 into the first half as Combra received a pass
from freshman midfielder Jamie Pereira (Naugatuck, CT) and
beat Anchormen goalkeeper, freshman, Kyle Amaral (Seekonk, MA).
Three minutes later, RIC would answer as sophomore forward Kyle
Teixeira (Warren, RI) received a cross from fellow sophomore
forward Cory Lopes (Somerset, MA) and put the ball past Hawk
goalkeeper, freshman, Kevin Deegan (Seymour, CT). At the end
of the half, RWU would grab the momentum and go up 2-1 when senior
midfielder Jamie Danis (Upton, MA) fired a shot in off Amaral’s
left hand into the net. RIC’s hopes were kept alive in the 68th
minute when senior defender Josh Nelson (Pascoag, RI) shot
the ball into a crowd in front of the goal that ricocheted off a RWU
defender and into the net. The game appeared to be headed for
overtime until Combra sent a free kick to Reddington who shot the
ball into the net for the victory. |

in net for RWU making six saves, while Amaral stopped four shots for
