Anchorwomen
Fall In Double Overtime |
| |
|
Providence, RI— The
Rhode Island College Anchorwomen were defeated, 3-2 in double
overtime, by the Framingham State College Rams at home on Thursday,
Oct. 2. Framingham State freshman forward Amber Goodreau (Ludlow,
MA) drilled a shot into the net off RIC junior goalkeeper Melissa
Carpentier (Woonsocket, RI) in the second overtime period to
give the Rams the victory. |

|
Framingham State opened
the scoring with two goals in the first 32 minutes. Sophomore
defender Amy Cunningham (Dedham, MA) scored first, then
teammate, freshman forward, Karin Knutsen (Fairhaven, MA)
tallied a goal to put the Rams up, 2-0. |

RIC answered those goals
with two of its own in the second half. Junior midfielder Elena
Sanborn (North Situate, RI) scored in the 46th minute
as she received a cross from senior midfielder Hollie Benevides
(North Dighton, MA) and slid the ball past Ram goalkeeper,
sophomore, Blair Eberman (Plymouth, MA) who had replaced
starter, junior, Christina Sullivan (Natick, MA) at the
beginning of the second half. The Anchorwomen scored again, 12
minutes later, as junior forward Alexis Bouchard (Warren, RI) took
a rebound off the goalpost and put the ball into the net to tie the
game, 2-2. Towards the end of the second half, both the rain and
temperature fell as both offenses searched for chances to score. |
|
|
|
RIC’s Carpentier made
nine saves between the posts while Framingham State’s Sullivan and
Eberman stopped four and five shots, respectively. Sullivan returned
to the field during the overtime periods to backstop the Rams to
victory. |
