Teixeira Notches Sombrero in Anchormen Win |
|
Providence, RI— Rhode
Island College sophomore forward Kyle Teixeira (Warren, RI)
scored four goals in the Anchormen’s, 5-1, win over Little East
Conference rival UMass-Boston in collegiate men’s soccer action.
RIC improves to 7-4 overall and remains unbeaten in LEC play. The
Beacons fall to 6-4 overall and are winless with a 0-3 mark in
conference play. |

Teixeira drew first blood, scoring on a free kick
in the fourth minute. UMB sophomore midfielder Roger Lau
(Medford, MA) evened the contest in the 40th minute
by chipping in a pass from sophomore midfielder James Ocampo
(Everett, MA). |

The teams were tied, 1-1, at the half before the
Anchormen exploded offensively. Teixeira scored his second goal on a
crossing pass from freshman midfielder Tim DaPonte (Bristol, RI)
35 seconds into the second frame. He added his third and fourth
goals of the day in the 53rd and 60th minute
respectively to put the contest away. Senior midfielder Brian
Schimmel (Cumberland, RI) added an insurance goal in the 74th
minute. |

RIC freshman goalkeeper Kyle Amaral (Seekonk,
MA) wasn’t tested that often, making three saves to earn the
win. UMB senior goalkeeper Mike Tady (Coal Valley, IL)
allowed all five Anchormen goals and made ten saves in a losing
effort. Lau relieved Tady in the 76th minute. |

In upcoming action, RIC will host UMass-Dartmouth
on Saturday, Oct. 11 at 1 p.m. |
