Anchorwomen Hang On To Defeat Keene State, 3-2
|

Providence, RI—Rhode
Island College defeated Keene State College, 3-2 (30-16, 30-25, 18-30,
26-30, 15-7), at home on Oct. 7. The Anchorwomen breezed through the
first two games, but had to win a decisive fifth game to secure the
match. The victory improves RIC’s record to 9-9 overall and 4-1 in
Little East Conference action. Keene State now falls to 5-9 overall
and 1-4 in conference play. |

RIC was led by senior outside
hitter Erica Poirier (Woonsocket, RI) and freshman middle
hitter Erin Miga (Cranston, RI) who each had a match-high 12
kills. Poirier also contributed four digs, two blocks and two service
aces while Miga added a block and two digs. Freshman setter Kara
Sarcione (Londonderry, NH) aided the Anchorwomen’s cause with a
match-high 34 assists. Defensively, sophomore libero Sara
Chamberland (Coventry, RI) led the way with 14 digs while freshman
middle hitter Kari Geisler (Derry, NH) served up six aces. |

Leading the way for Keene
State were junior outside hitter Stacey Kroon (Bryantville, MA)
and freshman outside hitter Genna Florkowski (East Northport, NY)
who had 11 and ten kills, respectively. The duo also added a combined
37 digs, with Kroon leading the way with 21. |

In upcoming action, the
Anchorwomen will host Clark on Thursday, Oct. 9 at 7 p.m. |
