Roger Williams Gets By Anchorwomen, 3-1

Providence, RI—Roger Williams defeated Rhode Island College, 3-1 (30-20, 21-30, 17-30, 27-30), on Oct. 23. The Hawks dropped game one but came back to take games two, three, and four to defeat the Anchorwomen in their final regular-season home match of the season. The victory improves Roger Williams University’s record to 13-12, while RIC now falls to 12-12.

RIC was led by freshman middle hitter Erin Miga (Cranston, RI) who posted a team-high ten kills. Senior middle hitter Erica Poirier (Woonsocket, RI) on Senior Day had nine kills, two service aces and two blocks. Defensively, freshman setter Kara Sarcione (Londonderry, NH) had a team-high 12 digs while freshman middle hitter Kari Geisler (Derry, NH) added nine digs and also contributed five kills and three service aces.

Leading the way for Roger Williams was sophomore outside hitter Erin Carolan (Newtown, CT) who had a match-high 11 kills. Freshman outside hitter Ashley O’Keefe (Griswold, CT) dug a match-high 23 balls while setters Kristin Travis (Fairfield, CT) and Bonnie Meehan (Bellport, NY) each had 15 assists.

In upcoming action, the Anchorwomen will travel to Southern Maine on Saturday, Oct. 25 to participate in the Little East Round Robin.
