Anchorwomen Advance Past
Eastern Connecticut In LEC
Tournament

Providence, RI—Rhode
Island College defeated Eastern Connecticut, 3-1 (30-17, 30-24, 28-30,
30-28), on Nov. 5 in the first round of the Little East Conference
Tournament. The Anchorwomen now advance to face Western Connecticut on
Saturday, Nov. 8 at 4:30 p.m. The opening round victory was just the
second post-season win in the program’s history. The victory improves
RIC to 14-15 while Eastern Connecticut’s season comes to an end with a
14-20 record. |

The
Anchorwomen breezed through game one and held off the Warriors in game
two. Eastern Connecticut however stormed back to take game three and
appeared to be on its way to a win in game four, up 28-27, before RIC
ran off three consecutive points to end the match and win, 3-1. |

|
RIC was led
offensively by freshman middle hitter Erin Miga (Cranston, RI)
who posted a team-high nine kills. Freshman middle hitter
Kari Geisler (Derry, NH) had a well-rounded game for the
Anchorwomen as she posted five kills, one assist and team-highs with
five service aces, 13 digs, and seven blocks. Defensively, freshman
setter Kara Sarcione (Londonderry, NH) had 11 digs while, along
with 23 assists, while sophomore libero Sara Chamberland (Coventry,
RI) added ten digs. |

Leading the
way for Eastern Connecticut was junior outside hitter Jessica
Leifert (Winsted, CT) who had a match-high 14 kills and added nine
digs. Freshman libero Megan Turner (Clinton, CT) led the
Warriors with 23 digs while junior outside hitter Amanda Jassen
(Winsted, CT) added ten digs and six assists. |
