Michael Kelly Steps Down
As Rhode Island College Basketball Coach |
|
|
Providence, RI—Michael Kelly has
resigned as the head men's basketball coach at Rhode Island College in
order to accept an assistant coach's position at James Madison
University. Kelly will be
joining the staff of recently appointed Head Coach Dean Keener.
Keener was previously an assistant at Georgia Tech, which lost to the
University of Connecticut in the NCAA Division I Men's Basketball
Championship Game on Monday night.

"This was a
very difficult decision to make," Kelly says. "It is especially tough
to leave my players. This was an excellent opportunity for me
professionally and I am looking forward to working on Coach Keener's
staff at James Madison University." |
|
|
|
Kelly came to
Rhode Island College prior to the 2001-02 season and brought the
program back to respectability, including posting one of the best
turnarounds in NCAA Division III men's basketball history in 2002-03. |

A search for a
new head men's basketball coach will begin immediately. |
