Kristyn Alexander Earns Little East
Conference
Softball Rookie of the Week Honors

Providence, RI—Rhode Island
College freshman designated player Kristyn Alexander (East
Wareham, MA) was named the Little
East Conference Softball Rookie of the Week for her performance last
week. She is the second Anchorwoman to earn the honor in as many
weeks. Freshman pitcher Nicole Riley (North Providence, RI)
earned Rookie of the Week accolades last week.

In 20 trips to the plate last
week, Alexander collected nine hits for a .450 average, with two runs
scored and seven RBI. She drove in both game-winning runs during a
sweep of Southern Maine on Apr. 18. In game one, Alexander stroked a
bases-loaded single in the top of the 11th and followed
that up by hitting a two-run double in the first inning of game two.
In a doubleheader sweep of UMass-Dartmouth on Apr. 15, she went 6-7
with two runs scored and four RBI. On the season, Alexander has played
in 28 games, starting all of them. She is batting a team-best .376
with a team-best 35 hits and 19 RBI. Alexander also has two doubles,
nine runs scored, a .419 slugging percentage, a .388 on-base
percentage and a 1.000 fielding percentage.

She is a special education major
with a minor in physical education and a 2003 graduate of Wareham High
School.

Head Coach Maria Morin’s
team is currently 19-9 overall and 8-2 in the Little East Conference.
RIC has won 13 of its last 14 contests and was ranked first in New
England last week. The Anchorwomen will play three doubleheaders this
week. First they host Western Connecticut on Tuesday, Apr. 20, then
Westfield State on Thursday, Apr. 22 before traveling to face Eastern
Connecticut on Sunday, Apr. 18.
