Women’s Lacrosse Season Summary

Providence, RI--Head
Coach Ryan Angel’s (Career record: 10-18, .357) team concluded
the 2004 season with a 7-8 overall record and was 0-6 in the Little
East Conference. RIC’s seven wins were one more than what the program
had accumulated over its first three seasons (six, 2001-2003). The
program continued to improve as the club broke 10 team records and
tied another this spring. |

The
Anchorwomen established new single-season records for wins (seven),
goals (147), assists (42), points (189), ground balls (560), shots
(375), draw controls (176), caused turnovers (88), saves (146) and
lowest goals-against average (9.70). RIC’s 145 goals allowed tied the
previous low set in 2002. |
|
|
|
Senior
defender Cara Collins (Johnston, RI) closed out her collegiate
career, having played three seasons for the Anchorwomen. She played in
29 games, starting 22 of them. Collins had one goal for one career
point with 18 ground balls, three caused turnovers and three draw
controls. |
|
|
|
As a senior
in 2004, Collins played ten games, starting three of them. She had one
ground ball and one caused turnover. |
|
|
|
As a
sophomore in 2002, she played in 11 games, starting all of them.
Collins one goal for one point, five ground balls, two caused
turnovers and three draw controls. |
|
|
|
As a
freshman in 2001, she played eight games, starting all of them. She
had 12 ground balls on the season. |
|
|
|
Collins is
a studio art major and a 1999 graduate of La Salle Academy. |

|
Senior
attack Kim Wells (Granby,
CT)
leaves RIC
as the Anchorwomen’s first-ever four-year letterwinner in women’s
lacrosse. She played in 46 games, starting 45 of them. Wells had seven
goals and one assist for eight career points with 42 ground balls, 11
draw controls and one caused turnover. |

As a senior
in 2004, Wells played 15 games, starting all of them. She had three
goals and one assist for four points with 19 ground balls and three
draw controls. |
|
|
|
As a junior
in 2003, Wells played in 12 games, starting 11 of them. The captain
had two goals for two points, seven ground balls and four draw
controls. |
|
|
|
As a
sophomore in 2002, she played in ten games, starting all of them.
Wells had two goals for two points, 11 ground balls, one caused
turnover and one draw control. |
|
|
|
As a
freshman in 2001, she played in nine games, starting all of them. She
had five ground balls and three draw controls. |
|
|
|
She is a
political science major with a minor in communications and a 2000
graduate of Granby High School. |
|
|
|
Junior
defender Erika Babat (North
Kingstown, RI)
played 15 games, starting all of them. She compiled 60 ground balls,
11 draw controls and nine caused turnovers. Babat is RIC’s all-time
leader with 121 career ground balls. |

|
Junior
attack Danielle Beaudry (West
Greenwich, RI)
was named Second Team All-Little East. She played 15 games, starting
14 of them. She had 23 goals and a team-high 15 assists for 38 points.
Beaudry compiled 50 ground balls, 11 draw controls and seven caused
turnovers. Beaudry’s 15 assists were a school record for a single
season and she is the program’s all-time leader with 25 career helpers
and 68 career points. She is also tied for the all-time lead in career
goals (43). |

Junior
attack Vicki Bilalyan (Cranston,
RI)
played 14
games, starting seven of them. She five goals and one assist for six
points. Bilalyan compiled 10 ground balls, three draw controls and one
caused turnover. |
|
|
|
Junior
defender Erin Grant (Coventry,
RI)
played
seven games, starting five of them before an illness prematurely ended
her season. She had three goals for three points. Grant compiled 13
ground balls, one draw control and two caused turnovers. |
|
|
|
Junior
attack Rachael Pecoraro (Smithfield,
RI)
played 15
games, starting 14 of them. She had 16 goals and five assists for 21
points. Pecoraro compiled 30 ground balls, seven draw controls and one
caused turnover. |
|
|
|
Sophomore
defense Ashley Cardin (Cumberland, RI) played 12 games,
starting ten of them. She had four goals for four points. Cardin
compiled 46 ground balls, seven draw controls and eight caused
turnovers. |
|
|
|
Sophomore
defense Crystal Colagiovanni (Johnston, RI) was named Second
Team All-Little East. Colagiovanni played 15 games, starting all of
them. She had 32 goals and two assists for 34 points. Colagiovanni
compiled 59 ground balls, 12 draw controls and 14 caused turnovers. |

|
|
Sophomore
attacker Danielle Egan (North Falmouth, MA) played ten games,
starting nine of them. She had five goals for five points. Egan
compiled 18 ground balls, 14 draw controls and one caused turnover. |
|
|
|
Sophomore
attack Jessica Maher (Warwick, RI) played 11 games, starting
five of them. She had two goals and two assists for four points. Maher
compiled 17 ground balls, three draw controls and two caused
turnovers. |
|
|
|
Sophomore
defense Megahn McKervey (Mansfield, MA) played 15 games,
starting 14 of them. She had one assist for one point. McKervey
compiled 33 ground balls, one draw control and seven caused turnovers. |
|
|
|
Freshman
center Caitlin Gavin (Portsmouth, RI) was named First Team
All-Little East and the squad’s MVP. Gavin played 15 games, starting
all of them. She had a team-high 53 points on a team-best 43 goals and
ten assists. Gavin also compiled a team-high 82 ground balls, 74 draw
controls and 21 caused turnovers. She was named the Little East
Conference’s Rookie of the Week three times this season. |

Gavin set
new RIC single-season records for shots (98), goals (43), points (53),
ground balls (82), draw controls (74) and caused turnovers (21). In
only one season of action, she is already tied for RIC’s all-time lead
in career goals and holds the all-time marks in draw controls and
caused turnovers. |
|
|
|
Freshman
attack Shana Griffin (Barre, VT) played 15 games, starting four
of them. She had five goals and two assists for seven points. Griffin
compiled 18 ground balls and three draw controls. |
|
|
|
Freshman
attack Kerri Higgins (Harrisville, RI) played 11 games,
starting two of them. She had one goal for one point and five ground
balls. |
|
|
|
Freshman
goalkeeper Micaela Morris (Barrington, RI) played 15 games,
starting all of them. She compiled a record of 7-8, a 9.70 goals
against average, a .502 save percentage with 146 saves and 36 ground
balls. Morris now holds the top career marks at RIC in wins, saves,
goals against average and save percentage. |

Freshman
defense Brittany Rosen (Derry, NH) played 14 games, starting 13
of them. She had five goals and three assists for eight points. Rosen
compiled 63 ground balls, 26 draw controls and 14 caused turnovers. |
