2004 Rhode Island College Men’s Tennis Season Summary

(5-9 Overall; 2-3 in the Little East Conference)

Providence, RI--Head Coach Kelly Lange’s team (Career record: 7-20, .259) closed out the 2004 season with a 5-9 overall record and was 2-3 against Little East Conference opponents.

The Anchormen tied for fifth place (six teams) at the 2004 Little East Conference Championships with 5.5 points.

Senior Sean McClelland (Pawtucket, RI) was 2-2 (.500) in singles and 7-8 (.467) in doubles for 5.5 points on the season. As a junior in 2003, McClelland was 0-1 (.000) in singles and 2-12 (.143) in doubles for 1.0 points on the season.

Prior to coming to RIC, McClelland competed for the Community College of Rhode for two seasons. He is a physical education major and a 2000 graduate St. Raphael Academy.

Senior Ben Powell (Elk River, MN) was 1-9 (.100) in singles and 1-2 (.333) in doubles for 1.5 points on the season. As a junior in 2003, Powell was 1-9 (.100) in singles and 0-4 (.000) in doubles for 1.0 points on the season.

Prior to coming to RIC, Powell competed for the Community College of Rhode for two seasons. He is a chemistry major with a minor in math and a 1997 graduate Elk River High School.

Senior Jeff Teixeira (Attleboro, MA) was a reserve on the team. As a junior in 2002, he was 3-10 (.231) at number five singles and 1-12 (.077) at number two doubles for 3.5 points.

As a sophomore in 2001, he was 10-6 (.625) at number six singles and 7-7 (.500) at number three doubles for 13.5 points.

As a freshman in 2000, he was 1-0 (.1000) in singles matches and 0-1 (.000) in doubles matches for 1.0 points on the year.

Teixeira is a secondary education major and a 1999 graduate of Attleboro High School.

Junior Julio Andrade (Cranston, RI) was 9-6 (.600) in singles and 3-13 (.188) in doubles for 10.5 points on the season. Andrade led the team in singles wins and points.

Junior Adam Pierpaoli (Smithfield, RI) was 3-11 (.214) in singles and 3-12 (.200) in doubles for 4.5 points on the season.

Junior Tim Smith (Jamestown, RI) was 4-2 (.667) in singles and 8-6 (.571) in doubles for 8.0 points on the season.

Sophomore Chris Furey (Cabot, VT) was 7-8 (.467) in singles and 5-7 (.417) in doubles for 9.5 points on the season.

Sophomore Jason LaDuke (Warren, RI) was 0-6 (.000) in singles and 7-7 (.500) in doubles for 3.5 points on the season.

Freshman Tauquir Puthawala (Lincoln, RI) was 1-7 (.125) in singles and 0-3 (.000) in doubles for 1.0 points on the season.

Freshman Richard Truchon (North Scituate, RI) was 6-9 (.385) in singles and 0-4 (.000) in doubles for 6.0 points on the season.
