Joe Testa
Named Head Men’s Tennis Coach
at Rhode Island College |
|

|
Providence, RI—Joe Testa
has been named the head men’s tennis coach at Rhode Island College.
Testa takes over for Kelly Chartier who stepped down from her
men’s duties at the conclusion of the 2004 season. |
|
|
|
“I am
excited about returning to my alma mater to coach the men’s tennis
team,” Testa says. “I am looking forward to the challenge of getting
the program back on its feet and challenging for a Little East
Conference title.” |
|
|
|
Testa was
previously the varsity head girls’ tennis coach at St. Mary’s-Bay View
Academy from 2000-2004. The Bangals were back-to-back Rhode Island
Class B State Champions in 2000 and 2001. |
|
|
|
Testa was a
four-year letterwinner in men’s tennis at Rhode Island College from
1997-2000. He
left RIC
with a 31-25 (.555) career singles mark and a 26-22 (.542) career
doubles mark for 44.0 career points. Testa is sixth all-time at RIC in
career points, seventh in career singles victories and sixth in career
doubles victories. |

|
As a senior
in 2000, he was
the Little
East Conference Champion at both number one singles and number one
doubles and was selected as the team’s Most Valuable Player. He was
9-4 (.692) at number one singles and 9-4 (.692) at number two doubles
for 13.5 points on the season. |
|
|
|
As a junior
in 1999,
he was 9-6
(.600) in singles and 8-6 (.571) in doubles for 13.0 points on the
year. Testa teamed with Pat Prendergast to become the LEC
Champions at number one doubles. |
|
|
|
He earned a
bachelor’s degree in physical education/health from Rhode Island
College in 2000. Testa is currently an elementary physical education
teacher in the Johnston School System. |
|
|
|
He resides
in Cranston with his wife Patty ’99. |
