Providence, RI—The
Rhode Island College Anchormen defeated the Western Connecticut
State University Colonials, 82-76, in collegiate basketball action on Jan. 27 at The
Murray Center. |

The Anchormen started slowly in the
first half going down by nine points with 10:16 remaining. RIC clawed back thanks to senior guard Kamran Alemdar’s (Stockholm,
Sweden) nine points. A
basket by freshman guard Kamari Williams (Springfield,
MA) with :05 left in the
first half gave RIC a 38-37 lead heading into halftime. |

Alemdar and sophomore forward Brian
Stanko (Swansea, MA)
hit back-to-back three pointers which ignited a 10-0 run, giving RIC a
61-50 lead in the second half. The Anchormen stretched their lead to 13 points
en route
to the six-point victory. |

Leading the way for RIC was Alemdar
who finished with a team-high 17 points while junior forward Jason
Harris (Bedford, MA)
added 10 points and eight rebounds. Also scoring in double figures for
RIC was Williams (16) and freshman center Kevin Zalucki (Enfield,
CT) (10). The victory
improves the Anchormen to 7-11 overall and 4-4 in LEC play. Western
Connecticut falls to 9-8 overall and 4-4 in conference play. |

(Queens, NY) had a game-high 20 points in a losing effort. |

In upcoming action, RIC will play at
Eastern Connecticut on Saturday, Jan. 31 at 3 p.m. Western Connecticut
will play at Southern Maine on Saturday, Jan. 31 at 3 p.m. |
