Machado, Ponte and Lyons to Captain
Rhode Island College Softball Team |

Island College senior
Amy Machado (Newport,
RI),
junior Megan
Ponte (Wakefield, RI)
and sophomore
Casie Lyons (Hudson, MA)
will captain the softball team for the 2005 season.

|
Last season, Machado played in 37 games, starting all of them. She
batted .291 with 34 hits, five doubles, five walks, ten runs scored
and 12 RBI. Machado owned a .333 slugging percentage, a .325 on base
percentage and a .859 fielding percentage at third base. |

|
|
Machado is a physical education major and a 2001 graduate of Rogers
High School. |
|
|
|
Ponte was named First Team All-Little East Conference as an outfielder
in 2004. She played in 37 games last season, starting 36 of them. She
batter .299 with 35 hits, three doubles, a team-high three triples,
ten walks, 21 runs scored and 12 RBI. Ponte owned a .376 slugging
percentage, a .354 on base percentage and a .895 fielding percentage. |

Ponte is a physical education major with a concentration in health
education and a 2002 graduate of South Kingstown High School. |
|
|
|
As a freshman in 2004, Lyons played in 34 games, starting 31 of them.
She batted .271 with 23 hits, one double, one triple, two walks, ten
runs scored and 12 RBI. Lyons owned a .306 slugging percentage, a .284
on base percentage and a .962 fielding percentage at second base. |

|
|
Lyons is a elementary education major with a concentration in special
education and a 2002 graduate of Hudson High School. |
|
|
|
Head Coach Maria Morin’s team opened the season in California
against Whittier College before playing eight games at the Sun West
Classic. The squad finished the trip with a 4-6 record. |
