Rhode Island College Baseball Update #3 |

(7-9 Overall; 1-2 in the Little East) |

Providence, RI--Head
Coach Jay Grenier's team is 7-9 overall and 1-2 in the Little
East Conference. The Anchormen played four games last week, all on the
road, and went 1-3. RIC traveled to Bridgewater State on Wednesday,
Apr. 6 and dropped a, 3-2, decision to the Bears. The Anchormen then
opened up Little East play at UMass-Dartmouth and blanked the
Corsairs, 4-0, on Thursday, Apr. 7. RIC then traveled north to LEC foe
Southern Maine on Saturday, Apr. 9, and dropped both games of a
doubleheader, 12-1 and 7-2, respectively. |

Senior outfielder Chris Higgins (Swansea,
MA)
has played in 16 games, starting all of them. He is batting a
team-high .345 with 20 hits, one home run, two doubles, ten RBI, seven
runs scored and four walks. Higgins owns a .391 on-base percentage, a
.431 slugging percentage and a .947 fielding percentage. He has been
name the LEC Player of the Week once this season. |

Senior pitcher/outfielder Glenn Dusablon (North
Smithfield, RI)
has played in 14 games, starting all of them. He is batting .260 with
13 hits, 12 runs scored and four doubles, along with two RBI, seven
walks and one stolen base. Dusablon owns a .340 slugging percentage, a
.356 on-base percentage and a 1.000 fielding percentage. On the mound,
Dusablon has appeared and started in two games. He owns a 1-0 record
with a 2.57 ERA. In 14.0 innings pitched, he has struck out eight
batters. |

Senior first baseman/pitcher Matt Brannon (Cranston,
RI)
has played in 16 games, starting all of them. He is batting .309 with
17 hits, one double, one triple, one home run, four walks, nine runs
scored and a team-high 15 RBI. Brannon owns a .418 slugging
percentage, a .350 on-base percentage and a .988 fielding percentage.
On the mound, Brannon has appeared and started in two games. He owns a
1-1 record with a 3.29 ERA. In 13 innings pitched, he has struck out

Junior right fielder Mike Naylor (Warwick,
RI)
broke his hand after being hit by a pitch, and will be out the
remainder of the season. Prior to getting injured, Naylor played in
seven games, starting all of them. He batted .318 with seven hits, one
double, six runs scored and three RBI. Naylor owned a .364 slugging
percentage, a .333 on-base percentage and a 1.000 fielding percentage. |

Junior pitcher Bruce Taraska (Exeter,
RI)
has appeared in four games. He owns a 1-0 record and is tied with a

Sophomore pitcher Caleb Barber (Mystic, CT) has appeared in
four games, starting two of them. He owns a 1-2 record with one

Greenwich, RI)
has played in 13 games, starting 11 of them. He is batting .341 with

team-high .423 on-base percentage along with a .987 fielding
percentage. |

In upcoming action, the Anchormen are scheduled to play six games this
week, all at home. RIC will face LEC foe UMass Dartmouth on Tuesday,
Apr. 12 at 3:30 p.m. to wrap up their season series. RIC will then
play non-conference opponent Roger Williams on Wednesday, Apr. 13 at
3:30 p.m., before closing out the week with back-to-back doubleheaders
against LEC opponents UMass Boston on Saturday, Apr. 16 and Keene
State on Sunday, Apr. 17. Both games start at noon. |
