Rhode Island College Softball Clinches
Share of 2005 Little East
Regular Season Championship
Anchorwomen to host LEC Tourney May 5-7 |

Providence, RI--Head
Coach Maria Morin’s team has clinched at least a share of the
2005 Little East Conference Softball Regular Season Championship. All
RIC needs to do to clinch the title outright is win one game in its
doubleheader with Eastern Connecticut on Tuesday, May 3. The
Anchorwomen will host the 2005 Little East Conference Softball
Tournament on May 5-7 regardless of what happens in the ECSU games.
RIC holds tiebreakers over the rest of the LEC field. |

This is
the first time in the program’s history that the Anchorwomen have
finished first in the conference. The team
is 21-13 overall and 10-2 in the Little East Conference. 2005 marks
RIC’s seventh consecutive season with 20 or more wins. |

|
The
Anchorwomen had two doubleheaders last week and went 3-1. RIC took two
games on the road from LEC rival Western Connecticut (9-6
10 INN,
8-2) on Tuesday, Apr. 26, before splitting two games at home with LEC
foe Plymouth State (3-0, 0-2) on Friday, Apr. 29. The regular season
finale vs. Eastern Connecticut was rained out on Saturday, Apr. 30 and
the games have been rescheduled for tomorrow afternoon. |

Freshman
first baseman Christie Lotti (Waterford,
CT)
has played in 33 games, starting 32 of them. She is batting a
team-high .440 with a team-high 48 hits, 29 runs scored, 11 walks, six
triples, four home runs and 15 stolen bases along with nine doubles
and 15 RBI. Her four home runs are a new single-season program record.
Lotti owns a .743 slugging percentage, a .492 on base percentage and a
.968 fielding percentage. She has named the Little East Player of the
Week once and was the LEC’s Rookie of the Week once this season. |

Senior third baseman Amy Machado (Newport,
RI)
has played in 33 games, starting 32 of them. She is batting .324 with
35 hits, two home runs nine doubles, two triples, 12 runs scored and a
team-high 22 RBI. Machado owns a .500 slugging percentage, a .345
on-base percentage and a .903 fielding percentage. |

Sophomore pitcher Nicole Riley (North
Providence, RI)
has appeared in 21 games, starting 14 of them. She owns a 9-5 record
with one save. She has a 2.14 ERA and has pitched four complete games.
In a 90.2 innings pitched, she has struck out 81 batters. As a hitter,
she has played in 17 games, starting 13 of them. She is batting .200
with seven hits, one triple, seven walks, one stolen base six runs
scored and four RBI. Riley owns a .257 slugging percentage, a .333 on
base percentage and a .880 fielding percentage. |

Freshman pitcher Heidi Eichler (Madison,
CT)
has appeared in 22 games, starting 17 of them. She owns a 10-7 record
two saves and a 1.90 ERA along with nine complete games. In a
team-high 99.2 innings pitched, she has struck out a team-high 93
batters. As a hitter, she has played in nine games, starting six of
them. She is batting .273 with three hits, one double, one walk and
two runs scored. Eichler owns a .364 slugging percentage, a .333 on
base percentage and a .958 fielding percentage. |

Freshman catcher/infielder Jeanne Rosa (Milford,
CT)
has played in 22 games, starting 19 of them. She is batting .333 with
18 hits, five doubles, five RBI and eight runs scored. Rosa owns a
.426 slugging percentage, a .339 on base percentage and a .970
fielding percentage. |

Freshman catcher Krystal Bilek (Fitchburg,
MA)
has played in 16 games, starting 11 of them. She is batting .302 with
13 hits, one home run, two doubles, four walks, four runs scored and
11 RBI. Bilek owns a .419 slugging percentage, a .308 on base
percentage and a 1.000 fielding percentage. |

Junior outfielder Katie Benevides (North
Dighton, MA)
has played in 31 games, starting all of them. She is batting .244 with
21 hits, one double, three stolen bases, ten runs scored, nine RBI and
two walks. Benevides owns a .256 slugging percentage, a .278 on base
percentage and a .976 fielding percentage. |

Sophomore shortstop Adora Burke (Naples,
ME)
has played in 31 games, starting 26 of them. She is batting .312 with
24 hits, one home run, three doubles, one triple, nine walks, 15 runs
scored and 11 RBI. Burke owns a .416 slugging percentage and a .384 on
base percentage along with a .899 fielding percentage. |

Junior outfielder Megan Ponte (Wakefield,
RI)
has played in 29 games, starting 28 of them. She is batting .215 with
15 hits, one triple, one home run, four walks, two stolen bases, 11
runs scored and three RBI. Ponte owns a .286 slugging percentage, a
.295 on-base percentage and a .973 fielding percentage. |

Sophomore catcher/designated player Kristyn Alexander (East
Wareham, MA)
has played in 33 games, starting 29 of them. She is batting .264 with
24 hits, four doubles, three walks, three runs scored and six RBI.
Alexander owns a .308 slugging percentage, a .309 on-base percentage
and a .983 fielding percentage. |

Junior outfielder Andree Sitnik (Lincoln,
RI)
has played in 25 games, starting 18 of them. She is batting .195 with
eight hits, two doubles, one RBI, nine runs scored and three walks.
Sitnik owns a .244 slugging percentage, a .250 on-base percentage and
a .810 fielding percentage. |

Sophomore infielder Crystal O’Connell (Somerset,
MA)
has played in 15 games, starting 11 of them. She is batting .125 with

percentage and a .920 fielding percentage. |

She is batting .118 with two hits, two walks and one run scored.
