Providence, RI--Head
Coach Maria Morin Career record: (223-182-3, .550) was named
the Little East Conference Softball Coach of the Year for the second
time in her coaching career. Morin had previously received the honor
following the 2003 season. Morrin led the Anchorwomen to the 2005 Eastern
College Athletic Conference (ECAC) N.E. Div. III Softball
Championship, the third in the program’s history (1984, 1986). |

|
RIC closed
out the season with a 28-15 overall record, establishing a new program
record for wins in a season. RIC’s 28 victories were the most in a
season since the 2002 squad won 27. The Anchorwomen also went 12-2 in
the Little East and were the LEC Regular Season Champions. The first
place finish and 12 conference wins were also new program records. |

|
2005 marked the seventh consecutive season that the Anchorwomen have
won 20 or more games. RIC’s ECAC bid was the program’s fifth berth in
the past seven seasons. The Anchorwomen have posted nine consecutive
winning seasons. |
|
|
|
Senior
third baseman Amy Machado (Newport, RI)
wrapped up career as an Anchorwoman
having played in 146 games, starting in 142 of them. She leaves RIC
near the top of many all-time program statistical categories. She
ranks first all-time in career at bats (441), third in career hits
(131) and RBI (63), fourth in career assists (233), fifth in career
total bases (163) and eighth in career runs scored (58) and batting
average (.297). |

|
As a senior
in 2005, Machado was named the 2005 Little East Conference Softball
Player of the Year. She was also named First Team All-ECAC and All-Little East at
third base. Machado was a Third Team All-New England at-large
selection and was selected as the team MVP. She
played in 41 games, starting 40 of them.
She batted .323 with 41 hits, two home runs, ten doubles, two triples,
17 runs scored and a team-high 25 RBI. Machado owned a .496 slugging
percentage, a .376 on-base percentage and a .898 fielding percentage. |

|
As a junior
in 2004, she played in 37 games, starting all of them. She batted .291
with 34 hits, five doubles, five walks, ten runs scored and 12 RBI.
Machado owned a .333 slugging percentage, a .325 on-base percentage
and a .859 fielding percentage. |
|
|
|
As a sophomore in 2003, Machado
played in
31 games, starting 30 of them. She batted .286 with 13 runs, 26 hits,
three doubles, 11 RBI and one stolen base. She owned a .319 slugging
percentage, a .350 on-base percentage and a .895 fielding percentage. |
|
|
|
As a freshman in 2002, she
was named
Second Team All-Little East Conference. Machado played in 37 games,
starting 35 of them. She batted .283 with 18 runs scored, 30 hits, one
double, two triples, 15 RBI and three stolen bases. She owned a .330
slugging percentage, a .330 on-base percentage and a .854 fielding
percentage. |

|
Machado is a physical education major and a 2001 graduate of Rogers
High School. |
|
|
|
Junior left fielder Katie Benevides (North Dighton, MA) played
in 39 games, starting all of them. She is batted .234 with 25 hits,
one double, one triple, four stolen bases, 14 runs scored, 11 RBI and
four walks. Benevides owned a .262 slugging percentage, a .274 on base
percentage and a .946 fielding percentage. |

|
Junior center fielder Megan Ponte (Wakefield, RI)
was named
Second Team All-Little East Conference. Ponte
played in 38 games, starting 37
of them. She batted .255 with 25 hits, two triples, one double, two
home runs, four walks, three stolen bases, 17 runs scored and six RBI.
Ponte owned a .367 slugging percentage, a .311 on-base percentage and
a .980 fielding percentage. |

|
Junior right fielder Andree Sitnik (Lincoln, RI) played in 34
games, starting 25 of them. She batted .169 with ten hits, two
doubles, one RBI, 11 runs scored and three walks. Sitnik owned a .203
slugging percentage, a .210 on-base percentage and a .839 fielding
percentage. |

Sophomore
catcher/designated player Kristyn Alexander (East Wareham, MA)
was named Second Team All-Little East Conference as a catcher.
Alexander played in 42 games, starting 37 of them. She batted .270
with 31 hits, five doubles, one home run, five runs scored, 13 RBI and
five walks. She owned a .339 slugging percentage, a .311 on-base
percentage and a .988 fielding percentage. |

Sophomore
shortstop Adora Burke (Naples, ME) was named First Team
All-Little East Conference. Burke played in 40 games, starting 34 of
them. She batted .308 with 32 hits, five doubles, one triple, one home
run, 20 runs scored, 15 RBI and two stolen bases. She owned a .404
slugging percentage, a .363 on-base percentage and a .891 fielding
percentage. |

|
Sophomore first baseman Katelyn Labelle (South Dartmouth, MA)
played in 20 games, starting 14 of them. She batted .250 with seven
hits, two doubles, five walks, six runs scored and four RBI. Labelle
owned a .321 slugging percentage, a .364 on-base percentage and a .956
fielding percentage. |

|
Sophomore second baseman Casie Lyons (Hudson, MA) played in 35
games, starting 29 of them. She batted .203 with 13 hits, one triple,
six walks, 11 runs scored and seven RBI. Lyons owned a .234 slugging
percentage, a .271 on-base percentage and a .951 fielding percentage. |

|
Sophomore infielder Crystal O’Connell (Somerset, MA) played in
15 games, starting 11 of them. She batted .125 with three hits, three
runs scored, three walks, two stolen bases and two RBI. O’Connell
owned a .125 slugging percentage, a .250 on-base percentage and a .920
fielding percentage. |

|
Sophomore pitcher Nicole Riley (North Providence, RI) appeared
in 25 games, starting 17 of them. She owned a 12-6 record with one
save. She had a 2.19 ERA and pitched five complete games. In 112
innings, she struck out 101 batters. As a hitter, she has played in 18
games, starting 13 of them. She batted .189 with seven hits, one
triple, eight walks, one stolen base, eight runs scored and four RBI.
Riley owned a .243 slugging percentage, a .333 on base percentage and
a .897 fielding percentage. |

|
Freshman pitcher Kayla Baranski (Cumberland, RI) appeared in
three games, starting one of them. She had a record of 1-0 with a 2.86
ERA in 7.1 innings. As a hitter, she played in 16 games, starting four
of them. She batted .143 with three hits, two walks and two RBI.
Baranski owned a .143 slugging percentage, a .208 on base percentage
and a .833 fielding percentage. |

|
Freshman
designated player/catcher Krystal Bilek (Fitchburg, MA) was
named First Team All-Little East Conference as a designated player.
Bilek played in 25 games, starting 19 of them. She batted .318 with 21
hits, five doubles, one home run, six runs scored, 16 RBI and eight
walks. She owned a .439 slugging percentage, a .403 on-base percentage
and a 1.000 fielding percentage. |

|
Freshman second baseman/shortstop Katie Chadwick (Wakefield, RI)
played in 14 games, starting four of them. She had one walk and one
run scored on the season. |
|
|
|
Freshman outfielder Rachelle Edgar (Waterford, CT) played in 18
games, starting ten of them. She batted .200 with five hits, one
stolen base, one walk and four runs scored. Edgar owned a .200
slugging percentage, a .231 on base percentage and a 1.000 fielding
percentage. |

|
|
Freshman
pitcher Heidi Eichler (Madison, CT) was named Second Team
All-Little East Conference. Eichler was named the ECAC N.E. Div. III
Softball Tournament MVP. She appeared in 29 games, starting 22 of
them. Eichler was 14-8 with a 1.75 ERA, 120 strikeouts and two saves
in 136 innings. She had 14 complete games and eight shutouts on the
season. |

|
Freshman outfielder Amy Huston (Wakefield, RI) played in 14
games. She had one walk and four runs scored. |
|
|
|
Freshman
first baseman Christie Lotti (Waterford, CT) was named the 2005
Little East Conference Softball Rookie of the Year. Lotti was also
named First Team All-Little East and was a First Team All-New England
selection. She played in 42 games, starting
41 of them. She batted a team-high .441 with a team-high 60 hits, 37
runs scored, 16 walks, six triples, five home runs and 17 stolen bases
along with 13 doubles and 22 RBI. Lotti set RIC single-season
records in hits, runs scored and home runs this spring. Lotti
owned a .735 slugging percentage, a .500 on base percentage and a .975
fielding percentage. She was named the Little East Player of the Week
once and was the LEC’s Rookie of the Week twice this season. |

|
Freshman catcher Jeanne Rosa (Milford, CT) played in 24 games,
starting 21 of them. She batted .339 with 20 hits, six doubles, eight
RBI and eight runs scored. Rosa owned a .441 slugging percentage, a
.355 on base percentage and a .974 fielding percentage. |
|
|
|
Freshman pitcher Katie Sayball (Milford, CT) appeared in 13
games, starting three of them. She owned a 1-1 record with a 2.71 ERA.
In 31.0 innings, she struck out 14 batters. As a hitter, Sayball
played in 17 games, starting 11 of them. She batted .118 with two
hits, two walks and one run scored. Sayball owned a .118 slugging
percentage, a .211 on base percentage and a .978 fielding percentage. |
