Amy
Machado Earns First Team All-ECAC Honors in Softball
|

|
|
Providence, RI—Rhode
Island College senior Amy Machado (Newport, RI) was named First
Team All-Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) as a third
baseman. |
|
|
|
Machado was
named the 2005 Little East Conference Softball Player of the Year. She
was also named First Team All-Little East at third base. Machado was a
Third Team All-New England at-large selection and was selected as the
team MVP. She played in 41 games, starting 40 of them. She batted .323
with 41 hits, two home runs, ten doubles, two triples, 17 runs scored
and a team-high 25 RBI. Machado owned a .496 slugging percentage, a
.376 on-base percentage and a .898 fielding percentage. |

|
She
wrapped up her career as an Anchorwoman
having played in 146 games, starting in 142 of them. She leaves RIC
near the top of many all-time program statistical categories. She
ranks first all-time in career at bats (441), third in career hits
(131) and RBI (63), fourth in career assists (233), fifth in career
total bases (163) and eighth in career runs scored (58) and batting
average (.297). |

Head Coach
Maria Morin’s team was named the Little East Conference
Softball Coach of the Year for the second consecutive season. Morin
led the Anchorwomen to the 2005 Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC)
N.E. Div. III Softball Championship, the second in the program’s
history (1986). |

|
RIC closed
out the season with a 28-15 overall record, establishing a new program
record for wins in a season. RIC’s 28 victories were the most in a
season since the 2002 squad won 27. The Anchorwomen also went 12-2 in
the Little East and were the LEC Regular Season Champions. The first
place finish and 12 conference wins were also new program records. |

|
2005 marked the seventh consecutive season that the Anchorwomen have
won 20 or more games. RIC’s ECAC bid was the program’s fifth berth in
the past seven seasons. The Anchorwomen have posted nine consecutive
winning seasons. |
